Windows 10: Unable to launch Store apps

    So I've got a really weird issue. I restarted my PC and after signing in I was greeted by an error. It looked like one of the Store apps I have set to start with Windows was unable to launch...and Windows could not access the file. It happened a couple times as I have a couple Store apps set to start with Windows.

    Next thing I noticed...all the Store apps on my taskbar have blank icons. Same in the Start menu. I've also got some weird entries at the bottom of my Start menu...screenshot here. When I search for the Store all I get is ms-resource:StoreTitle. Opening Store apps does nothing, but apps like Settings work fine. edit: opening Store apps throws an error about not having access - screenshot here.

    Edit: alright so I had MS To Do pinned to my taskbar...previously it had a blank icon but opening it works fine now, although it tells me it needs an update. Attempting to open ms-resource:StoreTitle makes the frame of an app appear (window borders) but it disappears immediately. Attempting to open iTunes still throws an error about not having access, see the screenshot above.

    What I've tried (all unsuccessful):

    • running sfc /scannow
    • running dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    • rolling back an update and reinstalling one in the hopes that the update process would fix it (it didn't)
    • repair installing with setup.exe from a Windows ISO (same build I'm running now)

    I've checked the permission settings on the C:\Program Files\WindowsApps folder and they're identical to the permissions on that folder on another PC that's not having any issues. So I've got no idea what's wrong.

    I don't know what else to try short of a clean install which I'm not particularly willing to do. All the articles I could find suggest using icacls /reset on the WindowsApps folder (but iirc the Program Files folder has different permissions so that'll just break stuff) or using a different command to restore the permissions on WindowsApps to what they should be. But I just checked (icacls "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps") and they're identical to the permissions set on another, working, PC.

    I understand how it could be when the applications doesn’t work as they are supposed to. We will look into this. However, please reply to the following questions to help you in a better way:

    • Are you getting any error message?
    • Since when are you facing this issue?
    • Are you aware of any changes made on the computer recently?

    In the meantime, I suggest you to follow the steps from the article

    to fix the issues with the Microsoft apps that are not launching. Also, follow the steps from the article

  3. Unable to Launch Apps or Games from Microsoft Store

    From since last week, I have been unable to get any game or app downloaded from Microsoft Store to launch. Previously they worked but now when I try to run them or launch after a reinstall, the page that should open up briefly appears and disappears in
    the same moment. I have tried several of the suggested fixes that were suggested in the forum but none seem to work.

    I understand that you are unable to launch Microsoft Store, Xbox app and GameBar. I’ll certainly help you with this issue.



    However, please let us know:



    • Do you receive any error message?
    • Are you aware of any changes made to the computer recently?
    • Which build version of Windows 10 are you using currently? To check type:
      winver in the search bar on the Taskbar and hit
      Enter.

    Method 1: Store app troubleshooter



    I would suggest you to run the Store app troubleshooter and check. Refer the steps mentioned below:



    1. Press Windows Logo key + I, to open Settings.
    2. Click on Update & Security and select Troubleshoot from the left pane.
    3. Scroll down, click on Windows Store apps and select Run the troubleshooter.
    4. Follow the on-screen instructions.


    Method 2: Re-register apps



    If Store app troubleshooter doesn’t work, I would suggest you to try re-registering the apps using PowerShell. Refer the steps mentioned below:



    1. Press Windows Logo key + X, and select
      Windows PowerShell (Admin).
    2. Paste the following command and press Enter:
      Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}
    3. Once the process is complete, restart the computer and check.


    Method 3: New user account



    If re-registering the apps didn’t work, try creating a new user account and check if the issue persists. Refer the article
