Windows 10: Unable to log in/ change password/ enter safe mode /access admin

Hi, I forgot my local account password for my PC and am unable to sign in. I tried entering safe mode with command prompt but I just get send back to the login screen after hitting “6” or “f6”. I tried “reset PC” and many other troubleshooting methods present on the screen once hitting “shift” and “restart” together on the log in screen. All of the options require me to enter my password for my one and only account local not Windows account which I don’t remember. I have exhausted every option I can think of and can find on the internet. Any ideas as to why I can’t get into safe mode/ admini

Ok, now this is weird: XP repair will not accept my new password! WTF?

 

Safe mode no access

Clicking Shift+Restart will let you select Safe Mode on a machine that behaves as it should.

After the final restart the screen goes to the password page but it will not accept the password. I noticed there is no internet access. I had a similar situation when I lost my internet WIFI signal and could not
get into my system. Without internet access the password would not work.

-> This is not correct. After the Microsoft account has been configured, Internet access is not necessary to logon. Unless, of course, you changed the password on a different machine.

After the internet connection was re-established the password worked. Could the same problem be happening when I try to enter safe.mode?

-> The same applies to Safe Mode: I can log on in Normal Mode and also in Safe Mode without any connection to the Internet.

Is there a workaround?

-> The wise man creates a spare local admin account while things are working as they should. This will protect you against two mishaps:

- Something goes wrong with your main admin account.

- You lose password synchronisation and are unable to log on.

Your inability to launch Safe Mode suggests an underlying problem with your installation. If it is just a password problem then this
