Windows 10: unable to log on to my Windows 11 workstation using RDp with a Microsoft Account *** Email...

it always tries to connect, then fails to accept my credentials, I have created a local account and can get connected using only the username portion of the account, not with DOMAIN/username. The computer is in a workgroup not a domain, prior to upgrading to Windows 11I was always able to establish a remote desktop session. Also, I have turned off Require network level authentication.

Also may I suggest you change email accounts to one of the following.....

Gmail
Outlook

The reason is they both use "Step two verification". This style of verification means even if a hacker gets your password they cannot log in to your account. You see every time someone try's to log in that hasn't been verified you will get a text or a phone call giving you a final code to log in. Its very easy and simple to setup also. The great thing is once you setup your Email application with a specific "application password" from that account you never have to log in again AND your account is protected from being logged in from foreign entities.

I like the new outlook personally however Gmail is also damn good. Gmail also has an IP tracker that allows you to see WHERE the account has been logged in from. Anyway let us know if you wanna change over and have any questions. We will be happy to help and welcome to TPU!

 

Unable to login OR RDP using Microsoft Account

Hi Everyone,

I have three computers that were set up using my Microsoft Account. Recently I tried to RDP into one of them and I can't. I tried both the local PIN and my Microsoft Account password. Both resulted in "The logon attempt failed". I experienced this in the past and after switching from a Microsoft Account to a local account and back again, it resolved itself but that isn't helping here.

Important Details:

• All three computers are on Windows 10 Pro 21H2
  
• All three computers have Remote Desktop enabled
  
• My Microsoft Account is allowed to RDP into all three
  
• My Microsoft Account uses a custom email instead of an Outlook email
  
• My Microsoft Account has MFA turned on
  
• When my Microsoft Account is added, I cannot log in to the machine using its password. I always have to use the PIN I set up.
  

I attempted to find a resolution but have been unsuccessful. I tried deleting the RegEdit profile and re-adding my account. I changed a few Group Policies that were mentioned online, nothing changed.

Any help would be appreciated. I may just switch back to local accounts but I don't like the idea of something not working as designed haha.

 

Microsoft Account and Authentication during RDP

Hello, trying to RDP to my windows 10 (fall creators update) via RDP but the RDP client always fails with invalid credential.

I have tried the combinations:

• Microsoft account primary alias and Microsoft account password
• Local username associated with my Microsoft account and Microsoft account password

Neither is accepted for sign in. I have Mobile sign in enabled on my account so I technically never entered my password here.
