Windows 10: Unable to login, password which I know to be correct is not accepted

    Unable to login, password which I know to be correct is not accepted


    After restarting my PC I noticed that the Lock Screen was asking for the Microsoft account password instead of the Windows Hello PIN that I normally use. After entering the password only to be told it was incorrect, I went through the password reset process and set up a new password for the account but this was also marked as incorrect. I have restarted the PC several times and also launched into safe mode but none of the passwords current or historic are allowing me to log in and as I have no other accounts on the PC I can’t get past the Lock Screen at all. What is going on?

  2. Laptop Login won't accept correct password

    Hi,



    Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.



    We understand your concern as you are unable to login to the Microsoft user account either with the old or new password. We would like to know the local user account that you
    are currently using is a Standard or Administrator account.



    In this scenario, we would suggest you to perform these methods and check.



    Method 1: Connect the laptop with an Ethernet cable for network connection
    and try the onscreen keyboard to enter the password. Click on Ease of access from the right bottom corner of the login screen beside the shutdown icon, to select onscreen keyboard.



    Method 2: We would suggest you to refer the steps as mentioned in this article:

  3. Microsoft account doesn't accept reset correct password

    Hi,



    Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.



    We understand the difficulties you are facing while login to the PC using your Microsoft account.



    In this scenario, we would suggest you to perform these steps and check if you are able to sign with the correct login credential in Safe mode. Also check if you are connected the PC to the internet, preferably through Ethernet cable.

    1. At the login screen click on the power symbol.
    2. Hold SHIFT key in the keyboard and click Restart.
    3. After restarting your system, select the Troubleshoot option.
    4. Select advanced options under
      Troubleshoot
      screen.
    5. Click on Startup Settings
    6. Click Restart and follow the onscreen steps to go to Safe Mode
    7. Login with the correct password using the onscreen keyboard.


    Please get back to us with the end result for further investigation.

    Windows 10 stuck in Safe mode, Can't login with my correct password


    I don't have any restore points to use, and also I am unable to access a command prompt because I need to login to use it. Trying to do anything through using Shift + restart other than startup options requires a password. It's so frustrating that I need a password for everything on the start up screen, but it won't accept the password I know is correct. I reset it through Microsoft's website, and I'm able to login on there. But it will not accept any password I put in.
