  1. Unable to login to VM via RDP using Azure AD credentials...

Hey there, Microsoft community, I have a client using a Lenovo ThinClient with Windows 10 ioT installed. They are using it to login to a Windows 10 VM on a Scale NUC not an Azure VM via Remote Desktop Connection and they are to use their Azure AD credentials to remote in.The problem I am having is that I can't seem to login with those credentials, the error I am getting is:The credentials that were used to connect to VMName did not work. Please enter new credentials.I have tried the following formats: "AzureAD\*** Email address is removed for privacy ***", "AzureAD\Username", "*** Email address is removed for privacy ***". None of them worked.I hav

  2. Windows 10 Remote Desktop connection using Azure AD Credentials

My organization is running Windows 10 joined to Azure AD organization (completely cloud hosted, i.e. no on-prem Active Directory). I login to my PC with a username in the form of "username@organization.com" with no issues and have enabled Remote Desktop connections to this PC.

If I attempt to Remote Desktop from another PC on the LAN or from home, my credentials are always deemed invalid. If I attempt to login using a local account (via RDP) it works just fine.

Can anyone suggest why Azure AD credentials do not work over RDP or how to enable this feature?

  3. Migrating On Prem VM to Azure

Hi Experts, We have a requirement of moving out VMs as is in Azure from Current On-Prem and the process we are following is

    1. Create a RAW image from an on-prem VM.
    2. Convert the RAW image to VHD.
    3. Move the VHD file to Azure Storage.
    4. Convert the Disks to managed disks.
    5. Mount the OS disk to the C drive and other disks respectively.
Issue - Once we mount the OS disk we are not able to RDP to the machine we have followed the steps suggested in the below links and as usual there are millions of documents and none point in the right direction unfrotunately.

Links followed to figure out options to get this done -

Prepare a Windows VHD to upload to Azure - Azure Virtual Machines | Microsoft Docs - Microsoft documentation.

Create a Windows VM from a specialized VHD in the Azure portal - Azure Virtual Machines - Microsoft documentation.

Upload a VHD to Azure and create a virtual machine - Stephanie Kahlam - Some helpful people created this and

    We have tried options

    1. Created image from managed disk and tried to initiate the VM and got exception as below
      Provisioning failed.
OS Provisioning for VM 'demo-1' did not finish in the allotted time. However, the VM guest agent was detected running. This suggests the guest OS has not been properly prepared to be used as a VM image (with CreateOption=FromImage). To resolve this issue, either use the VHD as is with CreateOption=Attach or prepare it properly for use as an image:
      * Instructions for Windows:
      https://azure.microsoft.com/documentation/articles/virtual-machines-windows-upload-image/
      * Instructions for Linux:
      https://azure.microsoft.com/documentation/articles/virtual-machines-linux-capture-image/.

      and
the suggested solution 1 to use CreateOption=Attach creates the VM but does not allow us to RDP to the machine so we are assuming it's not booting up. The other option suggested in the hyperlink is to create image using SysPrep which is not an option for us as we are performing a lift and shift.
I would like to get some guidance from experts on to the right process to follow.

Unable to RDP to Windows 11 Machine

I hope someone can help as I have been pulling my hair out for a few weeks over this issue.

I have a Windows 11 Virtual Machine in Azure which I have been able to connect to until recently. When connecting it gets to Securing connection and it then fails. I have tried a local user account and it connects fine with no issues. As soon as I use my AAD user it has this issue my account is AD Synced from local AD. I have tried to login to the VM using a cloud only account as this also works.

I have also setup a Windows 365 Cloud PC and this is also doing the same thing and not letting me connect with my AAD account.

    • Virtual PC is Windows 11 22H2.
    • Joined to Azure AD with Intune
    • I can login if I am using a 3rd party tool such as Teamviewer or Connectwise Control.
    • I can login to the VM using local credentials via RDP.
    • I can login to the VM using another AAD account (Non AD Synced) via RDP.
    • I have made my AAD account Cloud only and I am still experiencing the same thing.
    • I have tried the Registry UDP fix for Windows 11.
    • I have tried a fresh install of Windows 11 22H2 on my laptop in case this was causing some issues.
    • I have tried to re join the VM to AAD.
When connecting to the Azure VM using my login details that fail, I get these 2 errors in the event log. (RemoteDesktopServices-RdpCoreTS/Operational)

    • RDP_TCP: An error was encountered when transitioning from StateUnknown in response to Event_Disconnect (error code 0x80070040).
    • TCP socket READ operation failed, error 64
Really hopeful someone has come across this before and can help.
