Unable to login using MS account after updating to Win 10 build 19042 - no errors displayed

I have been using Win 10 on my PC for years & logging in using my MS account.
I updated to build 19042 yesterday whilst logged in with my Microsoft account.
At the end of the update I was asked to reboot.
When the login screen re-appeared I was not able to login with my Windows account. I entered the correct password then switched to try my PIN.
I did not get an error using my password or pin - the screen flashed briefly then returned to the blank front screen displayed prior to clicking the mouse to see the login dialog.
I have a local user admin set up on my PC and am able to log in as that user.
I checked for further updates and applied them 2 of them in case it was a known issue but to no avail.

I have researched for the past day how to get over not being able to get into the PC using my Microsoft account but everything I have tried so far has failed.

NB: If I set the PC to Safe boot I CAN log in using my MS account, it finishes off the update from yesterday then displays my user home screen.
NB: I can log in using my local account then log into my MS account online. I believe this proves there is no damage to my MS account.
NB: I created a restore point prior to updating to build 19042 but this has been deleted as have all restore points prior to the update.
NB: I do not particularly need/want to log in using my MS account but was forced into it originally and now have that user set up in the way I want and I do not wish to waste more time setting up a different user and getting them set up the same way and trying to copy over years of data from multiple applications.

    PC information:
HP Intel Core i7-6700 CPU 4.41GHz
    32GB ram
    64 bit op sys
Running Win 10 Home 19042.867 and experience pack 120.2212.551.0
    C: has 272GB free of 475GB
    D: has 1.27TB free of 2.71TB

System has been set up as far as possible to have everything except the operating system installed onto the D: drive

    :)

  2. Login not accepted for my MS Account

Let me explain, again, what I have experienced:

    • I use my MS account to unlock this computer. No problem doing that
    • I attempted to use other apps requiring the MS login, like Outlook, or even this forum, and it would not accept the very same credentials I used to unlock the computer
    • I used my wife's MS account to login to this forum so that I could seek help
    • I have tried resetting my MS account twice, and that did not work either.
I would appreciate suggestions OTHER than wha I have already tried

  3. Can't sign in with MS account in Win 10

Thanks, this was not my fault or mistake. I just switched to local account from MS account. It's very simple to back again to MS account. It's a fault of MS insider build. Afterall I tried as per your suggestions. My existing MS account is not removing from
the list. Taskbar start menu not working. Very bad situation. I can't get further updates.

    Any other help plz.
