Windows 10: unable to open a word document in safe mode

I'm booting in safe mode to debug an issue of slow loading of windows processes, one of which is WORD. I'm getting message "The service cannot be started in safe mode."





Is there something I can do to get around this?

Unable to open Word document

Can any one help? I have a word document that I am unable to open. When I click on the document it comes up with 'unable to read this content, do you want to recover? However when I click yes it then comes up with 'word experienced an error '. I've searched
multiple things to recover it and I just can't seem to open it.

Another problem is that the file type is classed as a short cut. If anyone has any suggestions or even some insight on what the blood hell I've done that'd be great.

Do you get an error when trying to open Word documents, and if so, is that for all documents and what is printed on that error?

Can you open Word form its application icon, and if so, if you go to File - Open, can you open a Word document form there, rather than double clicking a Word document?

As an initial step, follow these steps to perform a full repair of your Office installation . . .

Open Control Panel - Programs and Features

Click Microsoft Office in the list of installed applications

At the top, click 'Change'

On the resulting dialog, click 'Repair' - choose the Online Repair, it is a comprehensive fix

That should fix any issues with your Office Installation . . .

NOTE: Please be advised, if you are running Office 2013 or earlier, before attempting a repair, have your Microsoft Office Product Key at hand, Office may need to be re-activated in some cases

 

Microsoft (Safe Mode)

If you want to disable the automatic safe mode in all Office programs, you can do so by changing the settings in Word, which affects all other Office programs.

Try this option:

Step 1

Open up a blank Word document on your computer.

Step 2

Click on the circular icon in the upper left-hand corner. Select "Word Options" from the menu.

Step 3

Click on "Trust Center" on the left-hand side of the menu

Step 4

Select "Trust Center Settings."

Step 5

Select the "Active X Settings" and uncheck the box for "Safe Mode." This will disable the feature in all Office programs.

Step 6

Hit "OK" to save your changes and close the Microsoft Word document
