Windows 10: Unable to Open any programs using the Start button in Windows server 2016

Hello All,


I had windows 2012 standard and upgraded to Server 2016 about 4 months ago.

This is a Virtual Machine created on ESXI host .



All works well when an Administrator logs in via RDP , but when another Administrator Added to Administrator group logs in , the 2nd admin is unable to open any programs from the start Menu or from Run.


When clicking on the program , it waits for sometime and then the screen refreshes and nothing happens.


I also find lot of explorer.exe.XXXX some numbers in the 2nd admin Appdata folder.


Steps tried


1. sfc /scannow /offbootdir=X:\ /offwindir=X:\windows


2 . Dism

Windows 10 Start Menu Programs Incorrect Location

As you are unable to open the program from Start screen. I would suggest you to right click on it and click on
Unpin from Start. Browse to the file location, right click on it and select Pin to Start to set it properly.



To change the Start settings, follow these steps:

• Click on Search and type “Start settings” without quotes.
• Click on the Start settings (System settings).
• It will open the Personalization window with Start settings.
• From here you can make the necessary changes.

Not able to open Sql server Management Studio 17.9.1 on windows 2016 server (Windows 10)

SSMS got installed successfully on windows 2016 server(which has no internet access) but unable to open in non admin mode.

Facing the below error while trying to open in non admin mode:

"the application was unable to start correctly(0xc00005). click ok to close the application"

 

Win 2016 word automatically launch on Windows 10 startup

I have tried these two options below but they did not work.Any Ideas----------------- Steps to disable startup programs in Windows 10:
NOT IN START UP FOLDER

1. Step 1: Click the lower-left Start button, type msconfig in the blank search box and choose msconfig to open System Configuration.
2. Step 2: Select Startup and tap Open Task Manager.
3. Step 3: Click a startup item and tap the bottom-right Disable button.

I have done this in reverse and it does not work—meaning I took out word short cut

First, create a shortcut of the Document and place it on (say, Desktop).

Then, go to the following location:

Your Drive:\Users\Your Name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

Drop your Shortcut into the Startup folder. However, when you cold boot your computer, your Desktop will first show up and then a few seconds later the Doc should appear.
