Windows 10: Unable to open iPhone photos HEIC extension on windows 10 machines

We are trying to open the HEIC image on enterprise windows 10 machines using inbuilt photo application, it is getting error "Can't open this file".


In our enterprise, we do not have an access to Microsoft store to download this software -

So we have downloaded the Appx extension from this page- [COLOR=rgba42, 0, 170, 1]https://www.free-codecs.com/download/heif_image_extensions.htm[/COLOR] and executed the following command line using powershell, "Add-AppxPackage -Path "C:\Path\to\File.Appx"", it executed successfully but still not able to open the HEIC extension image.



We also tried below steps,


Apps & feautres -> HEIF images extensions -> Advance options -> Reset


issue still persist.


Is there any way that we can open HEIC image file on windows 10 machines? we need to apply this fix for more than 20+ users.

install additional codices to work with this file and download codices at the Microsoft Store. But that extension is not free. Isn’t there a way to open the Apple HEIC and MOV files in Windows 10 for free, or I should download a tool from

HEIC photos not opening in Windows 10 (1909) Fresh Install

I'm having an issue where all HEIC photos will not open in a fresh install of Windows 10 (1909). I've confirmed that the HEIF Image Extensions app is installed.

I've gone through the usual troubleshooting steps of resetting the Photos and HEIF image Extensions apps to no avail. I even went as far as running Powershell to uninstall the apps, and again the issue persists.

Are there any additional troubleshooting steps I can take?
