  1. Unable to open "Settings" in Windows 10 64-bit

    Hi there,

I'm using Lenovo Yoga 500. Last week, all of a sudden, my keyboard stopped working except two keys Screen Brightness + and -. So i decided to reset the Windows 10. It actually rectified the keyboard issue, but now I'm unable to use "Settings" option. When I click, it opens for 1 or 2 seconds and disappears. I tried several ways to open it as mentioned below.

Click the Start icon and select Settings.

Click the Start icon, type Settings, and select the app from the list

Right-click the Start icon and select Settings from the menu

Press the Windows and I keys together simultaneously

Press the Windows and R keys together simultaneously to open a run box and type ms-settings and hit the OK button

Open a Command Prompt or Powershell with administrator rights, type start ms-settings, and press Enter

Nothing worked. So I tried few other solutions.

    1. Tried "sfc /scannow" in Windows Powershell Admin. It came up with the result "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."

    2. Tried "Get-AppXPackage foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode - Register "$$_.InstallLocation \AppXManifest.xml"}". It came up with below error in red color. And with several similar error in red color. It was a long list

    Add-AppxPackage : Cannot find path 'C:\Windows\SystemApps\MicrosoftWindows.Client.CBS_cw5n1h2txyewyAppXManifest.xml'

    because it does not exist.

    At line:1 char:28

    + ... Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$$_.I ...

    + ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    + CategoryInfo : ObjectNotFound: C:\Windows\Syst...ppXManifest.xml:String [Add-AppxPackage], ItemNotFou

    ndException

    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : PathNotFound,Microsoft.Windows.Appx.PackageManager.Commands.AddAppxPackageCommand

    3. Tried creating another user with admin rights. Didn't work in that user also.

So what should I do now?

    :)

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

    GPU-Z update loop (Windows 10 64-bit)

I don't have better steps - this is all, I have nothing to add.

Maybe it is worth noting issue was on Windows 10 Enterprise, build 14393.187, so maybe you should test on the same.
My other PCs have a different Windows 10 version - Pro, latest Insider Preview build from last week, and there is no such issue on those.
All are 64-bit edition of Windows 10.

This issue is not new. I have had same 1-2 years ago too, with older GPU-Z versions.

EDIT: And yes, I have Windows 10 UAC enabled and set to defaults. If you are using your Windows PCs with UAC off, you likely cannot reproduce this issue. *Smile Unable to open "Settings" in Windows 10 64-bit :)
