Windows 10: unable to open some files

Hi There:

The other day I was trying to open a zip file and I received this massage " the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable". I deleted the zip file, then I had the same problem with, Micro Soft Word, Psiphone, Telegram desktop, Google chroom, etc. I hadn't conneted any hard drives or a flash memory to my laptop when this happened. I searched the net and realized that almost everyone connected the error with an external hard drive while in my case it happened after trying to open a zip file. I have been going through some procedures such as " command Prompt, run as administrator, chkdsk……. or drive properties, tools, scan. or command prompt, Run as administrator, sfc, scannow. Unfortunately none of them worked for me. I decided to have a new windows installed on my PC but I couldn't do so as there is curfew nowadays in my country due to the spread of Coronavirus. I'll be grateful if anyone could help with this problem.

opening .dds files with gimp

Simply, HOW? I got the DDS plugin but the POS wont open DDS files still. Can someone give me a step-by-step rundown of how to install the DDS plugin for gimp so I know if I'm missing something?

So far I can open files from the Recent files list when I enter Word itself, however I still am unable to open any documents using the Word icon pinned to the taskbar:

Method 1:



I would suggest you to run System file checker. System File checker (SFC) scan is done to check if there are any corrupted system files that could be causing this issue. Kindly follow the below given steps:

• 
  Press Windows key + X, select
  Command prompt (Admin) to bring up elevated Command prompt.
  
• 
  In Command prompt type
  sfc/scannow and press enter.
  
• 
  Restart the computer.
  
  If no corrupted system files were found in the previous state, then I suggest you to try the following steps:
  

• 
  Open command prompt by pressing
  Windows key + X and selecting “Command prompt admin”.
  
• 
  In command prompt, type the following commands and press Enter after each command:
  
  DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
  
  DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
  

Close the command prompt and restart the PC and check if it works.

Method 2:

I would suggest you to
create a new user account and check if that helps.
