I am trying to perform an in-place upgrade on a Dell Optiplex 7010 which I have several of. I keep getting the error ‘We can’t tell if your PC has enough space to continue installing Windows 11. Try restarting Setup”. This machine is not supported for an upgrade to Windows 11. I can get the upgrade to take if I completely reimage the computer with Windows 11. Also the in-place will work if the computer was previously imaged to Windows 10 with UEFI instead of Legacy mode. I know about the registry fix to override the TPM and CPU requirement. “AllowUpgradesWithUnsupportedTPMOrCPU” I am able t

let use allow the upgrading of windows11 on unsupported PC's

You can upgrade to Windows 11 on unsupported hardware using customized ISO files. These files work the same on unsupported devices as those downloaded directly from Microsoft on supported hardware.

Here are some steps to upgrade to Windows 11 on unsupported hardware:

    1. Download the Windows 11 ISO file from the Microsoft website
    2. Create a bootable USB drive or DVD with the Windows 11 ISO file
    3. Boot your PC from the bootable media
    4. Follow the on-screen instructions to install Windows 11
You can also bypass the hardware checks by replacing the appraiserress.dll file in the Windows 11 ISO with the appraiserress.dll file from the Windows 10 ISO.

Here are some other things you can try:

    • Disable requirements checks
    • Bypass requirements
    • Add AllowUpgradesWithUnsupportedTPMOrCPU to the Mosetup folder in the registry, change value to 1, then run setup
You can check if your device meets the minimum system requirements by downloading the PC Health Check app.

Microsoft doesn't recommend installing Windows 11 on a device that doesn't meet the minimum system requirements. If you do, you might experience compatibility issues and your device might malfunction.

  3. Can't perform In-place upgrade!

Hi! I am using Windows 11 laptop. I was facing major issues with Windows Update. It always fails to install with error 0x80070002. I tried each and everything possible, including troubleshooter. I even ran sfc /scannow command. I deleted SoftwareDistribution and catroot2 folder. Nothing fixed my problem. I can install minor updates like Defender updates, but can't install Monthly security updates. Also, each time I restart my laptop, every time it gets stuck on Updates are underway. Please keep your computer ON. I have to force shut down it each time. I am frustrated.

So, in Microsoft Community, I was suggested to perform an In-place upgrade to fix my critical issues. I already have version 23H2 and I downloaded 23H2 ISO file. But, when running setup.exe, it shows the following error: Your files, apps and settings can't be kept because your current version of Windows might be installed in an unsupported directory or you're trying to install an older version of WIndows.

I can't perform in-place upgrade and hence, still getting Windows Update failures. I can't even restart my laptop. Please tell me how to completely fix this Update issue or how to perform in-place upgrade to fix this. Thanks!
