Unable to re-download Photos application after attempting to troubleshoot Photos failing to...

A follow-up post to the original thread here, all information in said thread still apply.I am now experiencing an 0x80073CFE error, and now it won't get past the downloading part of the process.I have re-installed Windows using this option to repair problems using Windows Update, which causes this new error code to appear.I have tried some but not all solutions in this thread.

  2. Unable to export videos using Photos application

    Hello,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that you are unable to export videos using Photo application, let us try few troubleshooting steps to fix this issue.

Refer the article on Fix problems with apps from Microsoft Store.
If the issue persists, I suggest you to uninstall and reinstall Photo application.

    To do that,

    1. Click on Start icon.
    2. Type Windows PowerShell.
    3. Right click on it and select Run as administrator.
    4. Type the following command and press Enter: Get-AppxPackage *Photos* | Remove-AppxPackage

Restart the computer and reinstall Microsoft Photos app from Microsoft Store.

    Hope it helps.

Unable to re-download Photos application after attempting to troubleshoot Photos failing to launch and jamming [0x80004005]

About 4 months ago, I started experiencing issues with the Photos app with it failing to launch after an update. I've tried restarting my PC, killing the process, and then relaunching, and reinstalling the app, however, reinstalling the app caused me to be unable to download the actual package from the Microsoft Store and I've since had to use alternatives that are not as good as the Photos app, i.e. Snipping Tool.

I have tried the following solutions, albeit for Windows 10:

    Redirecting

    System Specifications:

    Intel Core i5-9400

    AMD RX 7800 XT
    32 GB RAM

Unable to re-download Photos application after attempting to troubleshoot Photos failing to...

Unable to replace Photos app with Photo Viewer as default (10240).

I'm not making any headway on answers.Microsoft.com so I'm hoping the experts here can explain why I cannot replace the Photos app with Windows Photo Viewer as the default image viewer (in build 10240). From all outward appearances, it seems Windows Photo Viewer is unavailable.

The saga is explained in detailed words and colorful pictures here:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/i...2-83ece717ddfb

If that's too tl;dr for you, here are the bullet points:

    • Windows Photo Viewer is never listed as an option when using "Open with".
    • "Open with" lets you browse the disk and manually select the desired program. I navigated to "\Program Files\Windows Photo Viewer" but it contains no program there other than "Imaging Devices" (wrong). Choosing "PhotoViewer.dll" produces an error message.
    • In Control Panel's "Default Program", Windows Photo Viewer is shown to be associated with TIF files and nothing else. Attempts to set JPG to use Windows Photo Viewer fail because, again, its program folder only contains "Imaging Devices" (and the dll).

In an attempt to fix this problem, I used the "nuclear option" and Reset the PC. After Windows 10 (TH1 10240) reinstalled itself, I still couldn't select Windows Photo Viewer to be the default image viewer.

    Suggestions to fix this?
