Windows 10: Unable to recover Windows 10 keys

My wife's Lenovo desktop came with Windows 7 Pro installed. I upgraded it to Windows 10 Pro during the free upgrade period.

A couple of weeks ago, she did something that completely wiped out the boot partition. She says that she did not do anything, but she is not knowledgeable of PCs at all.

I attempted to recover through the normal recovery process using the installed system and the Windows 10 installation disk, but nothing worked.

I was able to make a complete copy of the Windows runnig partition (which had her emails, pictures, etc. to a NAS drive. I installed Windows 10 Pro to a new disk. I cannot find anything that will recover the registration info from the old drive to activate the new installation.

Suggestions?

Thanks but I don't want to do any decrypting. I want to download a Win 10 ISO from Microsoft and install it using my Win 8 key. No other steps required. Is that possible?

Nope, you need to install Windows 10 first and make sure the Windows 7 key is transferred to your Windows account after you've installed Windows 10 (not quite sure how that works). I missed the last step and I could not activate Windows 10 after a re-install... Microsoft seem to have done everything they can to make it a PITA. Also, it's technically too late to do this now anyhow, as the upgrade offer has expired. But KMSPico works quite well...

As for getting rid of Windows, delete the Windows folder.
