Windows 10: Unable to reformat my laptop w/ Windows 10

I am unable to reformat my laptop using the "Reset PC" options under "Recovery" in the Settings menu.

I am able to do all the steps but when the machine is about to perform the actual cleansing of my laptop back to factory settings, like a brand new device, It suddenly says "unable to reset the PC" or "failed to reset PC".... something along those lines.

My reason in formatting it is due to a possible virus hidden which is messing up with my network connection which couldn't be detected by my subscribed Kapersky anti-virus.

So I deemed that reformatting could help ease my mind that nothing could be taken from be exploited inside my device.

Reformatting Laptop

I'm planning to reformat my laptop and in the Activation tab it says that i have a digital license activated and linked to a microsoft account. My question is if i reformat my laptop would it wipe the Windows 10? I purchased this laptop not knowing if
windows 10 is the default OS or it was installed by the store.

The main reason why i'm reformatting my laptop is because of USB mass storage driver is faulty and no update or installation is fixing it, i even contacted microsoft agents and ASUS agents (my laptop is ASUS x507ubr) and tried all the things they said from
system recovery upto downloading manually of specific drivers. Finally i decided to take it into the local ASUS store so that they could take a look and they said the only way is reformatting a laptop. They suggested that if i know how to do it i should do
it so i wont take extra charges. Hence my question above.

 

Reformat upgraded win10 laptop


Good day!

I have a laptop that started with Windows 8. Then I upgraded to 8.1 then to 10 after the update was offered. However, I hate the bloatware included with the laptop for it takes quite some time for the laptop to be fully functional (normal Asus bloatware + VPN + Spyder calibration software).

I could buy an SSD to make it boot faster but budget does not permit me at the moment. I was thinking I would reformat my laptop to remove the bloatware but the thought of losing my license made me think twice.

What would be the best step to reformat my laptop while maintaining the license? Downgrade to 8 then upgrade to 10 or is there a process to install Win10 immediately?

• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK
