    Unable to renew IP address - receiving Media Disconnected Error Code


    I use two different portals on my laptop Lenovo for a part time job and also a medically necessary portal. I received errors from one of the sites saying that my IP address is showing it's inconsistent with my location as if I'm using a VPN, which matters for my medical portal. I tried to renew my IP address to reset it, but am getting disconnected media responses. I'm not a technician and am not very tech savvy so please make responses as simple as possible thank you!. Their IT support was of little help. Could someone walk me through how I could fix this please? I'm using an owned router

    Renewing IP address

    Hey book4worm,

    first of all, I'd suggest to upgrade to Windows 10 since you'll get a ton of security features and updates that XP is missing out on.

    But to renew your IP address:

    1. Open the start menu and click on Run...
    2. Type cmd.exe. A black window will appear.
    3. Type ipconfig /renew and hit Enter.
    4. Windows will try to receive a new IP address from your DHCP server.
    If this issue persists or if the command fails, check the settings of your wifi router.

    Trying to renew IP but get media disconnected error

    Every time I do ipconfig release/renew command I keep getting:
    No operation can be performed on Ethernet while it has its media disconnected.No operation can be performed on Local Area Connection* 2 while it has its media disconnected.

    Those commands when trying to renew IP Address. How can I fix?
