    Unable to restore windows 10

I was having constant disk thrashing so I disabled startup items and booted in safe mode which fixed the issue. I then re-enabled the startup items and restarted but now it fails to boot with 'windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change etc'. status 0xc000000e info: a required device isn't connected or can't be accessed. The only os shown is windows vista - I don't have Vista installed.

I have a windows 10 disk so I rebooted with. After selecting language there are a number of repair options: reset this pc, use system restore, startup repair, go back to a previous build - everyone of them has a target operating system of windows vista!

    Despite this I tried:

    - startup repair - 'startup repair couldn't fix your pc'
    - system restore - 'system restore couldn't find the offline boot volume'
    - go back to a previous build - 'we ran into a problem and wont be able to take you back...try resetting your pc'
    - system image recovery - 'we cannot find a system image on this computer'
    - reset this pc - 'the drive where windows is installed is locked'

I'm not very impressed that the windows 10 install broke so easily and doubly pissed that none of the repair options work.

    Any assistance would be appreciated.

    :)

  2. WiFi issues in Windows 10

    Original Title: WiFi windowsa 10

I'm unable to turn on WiFi in windows 10. I have tried all the fixes posted online but I'm still unable to turn on WiFi.

Went to restore back from windows 7 but when the upgrade didn't make a restore place.

Ditch Windows Vista and buy a license for Windows 10 if your equipment can handle it.

Is it installed on the same HDD, or on a different one?

Any more information there onscreen? Any BSOD code?
status 0xc000000e reads as STATUS_NO_SUCH_DEVICE, technically means 'A device that does not exist was specified'.

It seems to be about the disk on which Windows 10 is installed.

The issue has two different penetrating levels. First, disk level; and second; boot level.

Let us first concentrate on the disk level. Do these .....
    • Boot into the BIOS. See if that disk is detected in the BIOS. If detected, make it sure that it is the first disk in the boot order.
    • It step 1 is true, the disk is detected in the BIOS: Change the Storage controller mode in BIOS. IF it is set to IDE, change it to AHCI and vice-versa. Then try to boot normally.
If it does not boot after changing the storage controller mode, set it back where it was. Go for step 3.
    • Test the disk using Seatools for DOS. Take both the Short Test and the Long Test.
Let us know the results. If Seatools does not find any disk level corruption, then we have to try boot level troubleshooting.

ARC - the pc has only one drive, windows 10 is the only installed os (no Vista!), the disk is visible in the bios.

There isn't anywhere to change AHCI/IDE in the bios.

The seagate's seatools download at step 4 is 404! So I tried a legacy version. Short and long tests passed.

That's a start. I read your post very carefully several times and you never mentioned that.

Thn there is no adequate reason to show Vista as the only OS.

It should be under Advanced .... unless the BIOS is extremely locked up by the manufacturer. Generally they does not lock it up.
Let us know the specific model number of your laptop.

Long test in DOS should take a long time. Longer than this much.
Try if this link work for you: SeaTools | Seagate

It would be really nice if you document the result of long test with a camera snap. Because we need the concrete decision about the disk heath before shifting to the next step.

If Seatools does not find an issue, then, as I said earlier, we need to shift to the next possibility. Do you have access to another computer right now? If so, download Partition wizard Bootable CD. Burn it in a blank CD or in a USB flash stick.

Boot into Partition Wizards GUI following this instructions. When you are on the last screen, take a camera snap of the screen and upload the snap here.
Screenshots and Files - Upload and Post in Ten Forums

We need to see the partitions and parameters to proceed to the next steps.

I did previously tell you that both the short and long tests passed. There was no further information given other than 'test passed'. It took ages to run and you want me to run it again just so I can photograph the screen for you because you don't believe me?

    Unable to restore windows 10

My believe or otherwise does not matter. What matters is the level of the issue.
Disk corruption is a major possible factor that causes this issue. And if disk corruption is there, no further actions will do anything.
And, there is adequate reason to suspect disk corruption from your description.
It is not that I dont believe you (in that case I would not have volunteered in your thread); I wanted a documented confirmation only.

Anyway, as you are taking it otherwise (and it is your issue, not of me), please continue from here ....
