Windows 10: Unable to set Chrome or any app as a default app.

So i use auto key for quickly opening up tabs in chrome, well the other day i was doing my normal routine and it loaded chrome but said it wasnt the default browser.
as odd as i thought that was i clicked 'Set as default browser'.
Well it then pops up the settings, default apps window, and i see that they are all there but my browser.
no problem right? wrong, i clicked on the 'plus' then on chrome and nothing happens, same for any other broswer.

cutting a portion of the story out i used the reset option and now windows explorer is my default (chrome still works) and all of my default apps have been changed to nothing, and like with the browser i cant change those either.

Any help is welcome, i am wondering if its a windows problem or what (yes my PC should be up to date and so should chrome).

I can't set my default web browser

I am unable to set a default web browser. When I go to Settings>System>Default apps, i am able to change all the default apps except web browser. It just shows a plus symbol and says "Choose a default" When i click the plus symbol, a pop up says "Choose
and app There is no installed app for this type of file or protocol. Look for an app in the store.

I have installed edge from the store, i have reinstalled chrome, selecting the make this my default browser box. Neither of these have made an difference.

Additionally, any app that wants to open a browser gets the same store pop-up box, so I'm unable to use any apps that want to access a browser. For example I'm unable to link Facebook or Flickr with my Adobe Lightroom account.

 

Unable to set Excel as default app to open .xlsx files on Windows 10.

I can open excel files on the computer, the problem is when receiving an email with an excel document attached the document is shown attached to the email as a word document. On right clicking it gives me 2 options Open and Save, if I select open it opens
in word where I get the file conversion box with Windows (Default), MS Dos etc. If I select save it opens up asking where I would like to save it to, I can’t change the file type and it saves it as XLSX file. If I open Excel and then try to open the saved
document it says it not in a recognizable format



If I receive a word document as an attachment it opens up as normal in word.

Yes I did check if the excel version is listed on right clicking and it’s sadly not.
