Unable to share My Music to my network

I am on Windows 10 Pro 64 bit and I am using Syncback pro to sync files between my desktop and my laptop on my home network

I'd like to note that this just became an issue after the last update because prior to this I had no issues syncing.

At first I tried to run syncback to sync a couple folders I use on both my primary laptop and my desktop. I have it set to copy the files from my desktop and make any changes on my laptop so the files and folder structure match on both machines. When I tried to sync I would get a network error. I then did the following steps:

    1. I checked and then changed the folders so they are shared.

    2. Switched both computers to a private network. They were on this prior so I assume the last update changed this setting. I then had to reshare the folders.

    3. I discovered that password access for the different computers was on and for some reason my normal login and password would not work. To fix this I removed the password requirement.

    4. Once that was done I discovered the folder options had reverted back to being unshared. So I reshared them, again.

This worked great for the one folder as I am able to sync that folder just fine now. For some reason it does not work for the "My Music" folder that islocated on my desktop. When I run syncback for this folder I get the network error that the path does not exist. I try to modify the path but then I get the error listed below.

Note that I can see the path to the "My Music" folder under Network in File Explorer on both computers but when I click on it to get into it from my laptop I get the same error as when I try to modify the path in Syncback.

The error I get when trying to access the My Music folder with my laptop is:

    Windows cannot access <Music Folder>

You do not have permission to access <Music Folder>. Contact your network administrator to request access.

Note that I am the network administrator as this is my home network.

    5. I double checked and ensured the permissions are set the same on both folders between both computers.

Could this be because the "My Music" folder is a library folder where as the other is not?

Whatever the issue is I am missing something here. I have no idea why one drive will share just fine but the other will not yet they both have the same settings on them for sharing.

    :)

    Network/Music sharing

    Hi
we are all in posistions of learning and difficulties every day my friend, there are no silly mistakes here, just challenges yet to be overcome.

This should still be achiveable via hard drive sharing though, and a homegroup was simply a home network shared.
Sharing such a device would have restrictions to a local network only though.

However, I do think that you are confusing some protocols between internet and local networks, and to try and make things easier for you, it may be best to try an alternative approach.

For this I would suggest a NAS drive as you previously mentioned or try iTunes which can stream Movies, Music etc to any device which you are signed into.

A NAS drive normally comes with iTunes or Plex software just for this purpose.

    I hope this helps.

    Network/Music sharing

    Hi
What I meant to say was I'm unable to see my computer on the internet from my smart TV nor from the internet radio and so can’t see the external drive where my music is stored’
I’m not young and only have a basic grasp of computers and networks so please forgive any silly mistakes I may make.
As I said, I didn’t have any issues using Home Group and could play my music from any internet device.
I am truly grateful for any guidance you can give me.

    Thank you.

    File sharing windows 10 network

    Hi Steve,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that you are unable to see shared folders in File Explorer. I’ll certainly assist you with this.

I would suggest you to check if Network discovery is on or not. To do this, refer the steps mentioned below:

    1. Go to Control Panel > Click on
      Network and Internet >
Click on Network and Sharing Center.

    2. Click on Change advance sharing settings
      on the left pane.
    3. Select Turn on network discovery
      under Private and Guest network.
    4. Click on Save changes.
