Windows 10: Unable to sign into windows on laptop

I want to unlock my father's laptop but we dont have the pin or password and sadly he passed away and ever since then the laptop been useless and it ahs a lot of memories we dont want to lose

1. What is the error you get while trying to sign in?
   
2. When you say ‘0000’, are you referring to a PIN?
   
3. Is it a local or Microsoft account, you use with Windows sign in?
   
4. Do you see any other sign in options like password, fingerprint or facial recognition?
   
5. Do you see any options on screen to reset your password?
   

If you are using the Microsoft account with Windows sign in, choose password option under sign in options and type in the Microsoft account password and let us know if it works.



Please get back to us with the information requested, so that we can suggest the appropriate troubleshooting steps.

Unable to sign in to Windows = Unable to use Laptop

I am unable to sign into my Windows account which runs a laptop.

Windows 10 has presented a Temporary sign in screen. [We cant sign into your account]

I purchased this laptop 10 years ago - and have hardly had to use my Microsoft sign-in at all. As and when that has been the case the laptop must have had the password saved. Now that I am confronted with the Temp sign in, its impossible to log on without the password.

I have followed all the steps Microsoft suggest. (several times)

I can only receive verification emails to an alternative email address..but these are of no use because I simply cannot change the registered email address on my laptop....I have not received verification emails to my (problematic) email address.

I have tried to recover the account several times via Microsoft but I'm now being told I've submitted too many requests. Frankly I cant remember the answers to the majority of the questions in the first place - I even think back in the day I input a pseudo date of birth.

It asks questions about recent emails...is that from that specific laptop using the troubled email account - or from just from the account ?

I've never purchased anything and I used Skype about 10 years ago but I cant remember log in details or the names of the contacts I spoke to.

I have looked at solving it by running a Profile corruption check. (twice) via "regedit".

It revealed a "bak" and a TMP file, for my profile..

I deleted the TMP file and renamed the bak file. And then restarted the laptop. But it has not solved the problem and still presents the fact I have a temporary sign in to Windows.

So I am currently unable to access this laptop it would seem without getting access to my original Windows account that the laptop was registered too all those years ago.

Is there anyway of getting back into my Windows account ?

I cannot answer the Account recovery questions fully - or well enough for them to proceed.

What can I do ?

Kindly reply to the following questions to better understand your query.

1. Do you mean that you are unable to sign in to your User Account?

2. If yes, are you using a Microsoft Account or a local account?

However, I would suggest you try using the On-screen keyboard. Follow the steps below.

1. Click on the ease of access icon and then select On-screen Keyboard.

2. If you are able to login using the on screen keyboard. You need to update your drivers in the Device Manager. Follow the steps.

• Press Windows key + R key to open run command. Type "devmgmt.msc" and click
  Enter.
• 
  Expand Keyboard.
  
• 
  Right-click on the Keyboard and select
  Update Driver Software
  
• 
  Restart the computer and check.
  

If you are unable to sign in to Microsoft account, you may recover your password by click on the link below and following the mentioned steps.
