  1. Unable to start PC following August 8 Update

    My laptop froze on me and I was forced to do a hard reboot. PC would not restart and attempted to do an automatic repair. This did not work. Went to advanced options. Most options require an Administrator Password which I have never been asked for before would not take my Microsoft password. Have tried to restart in safe mode with no luck. Suspect these problems have something to do with the August 8 update which I cannot uninstall since I cannot get on to my laptop.

    :)

    Yes, it makes sense. You've probably reached the option to perform a clean install.

    If the recovery environment options on the installation media did not help, your best option is to perform a clean install of Windows using the installation media. However, I suggest you do it as instructed in the article that I will leave further down in this reply.

    Since a clean install will delete the entire contents of the system drive, it's a good idea to back up any important files stored on the drive to an external storage device.

    Since you cannot access the system, here is a procedure that should help you to access the files stored on the computer.

    1. Start your computer using the installation media;

    2. Choose the language, select "Next", and press "Shift + F10" to open the Command Prompt;

    3. In Command Prompt, type the command below and press Enter.

    notepad

    4. Notepad will open. Click on "File" and select "Save As";

    5. A window will open that allows you to browse the files on your computer. Through this window, you can make a copy of your files.

    Note: There will be other partitions that are usually hidden in Windows. The system partition, which is usually (CUnable to start PC following August 8 Update :), should be (DUnable to start PC following August 8 Update :), and your files will be in the "Users\<username>" folder.

    After backing up your files, do a clean install as instructed under "Use the installation media to perform a clean install" in the article below.

    In your case, start the computer using the installation media and proceed from step 4.
