  1. Unable to transfer my Windows OS licence to my new PC.

My old Asus laptop which i bought more than 2 years ago came with preinstalled Windows 10 home licence and i upgraded it to 10 Pro though a license key which i got as gift which is now updated to Windows 11 pro. Recently i purchased a Lenovo laptop which doesn't have pre installed Windows, so i tried to tried to transfer Pro licence to this new laptop, even tried uninstalling the key using slmgr commands with no success. When i contacted MicroSoft support, i was told that the activation key belongs to Windows 8.1 and i cannot use that anymore on windows 10/11. So is there any way to transfer

    :)

Transferring a SSD With OS on to a new PC

    Hi Juni

You can transfer that SSD to the new PC, when Windows boots, you will see 'Getting Devices Ready' while Windows installs any new device drivers required, then it sill boot to the Desktop

You should then go to Device Manager and manually install any drivers Windows could not install automatically

    However, there is a licencing issue . . .

Is your Windows 10 licence based on an OEM licence (came pre-installed on a PC) or Retail (purchased separately to a PC)

If it is a Retail licence, then it will have transfer rights to a new PC, if it is OEM it will not . ..

Help with OS Transfer on a new build

Need some help figuring out what I need to do for a fresh build tomorrow. I will be moving off of my old CPU and mobo to a new X99 system. Right now I have my OS on a Sata SSD and want to transfer it onto a new NVME drive.

    Some issues:
    • I have a windows 10 upgrade from a RETAIL windows 7 license so I should have migration rights correct?
    • I have 3 other non-OS drives so after I do the install with my old/ current Microsoft account will my fresh install of windows recognise those drives?
If you guys could shed some light on how to do this or advice please lend a hand. thanks!

Unable to transfer license to "new" PC

    Hi Lena_Fox

Is your Windows 10 licence based on an OEM licence (came pre-installed on a PC) or Retail (purchased separately to a PC)

If it is a Retail licence, then it will have transfer rights to a new Motherboard or PC, if it is OEM it will not . ..

Is your Windows 10 a Retail licence?
