Windows 10: Unable to uninstall EndNote X8 with error 1305

I have purchased EndNoteX9. However when I was trying to install it the system required that the previous version should be uninstalled. But I am unable to uninstall it because of an error 1305 saying that endnote.exe file is missing

I just purchased EndNoteX9 and trying to install it. It seems I had a previous version that needs to be uninstalled. When I try to do so I receive an Error 1305 message saying that endnote.exe file is missing...and it actually is. What can I do? Thank you

What is the exact error message you get while trying to uninstall the program?



The possible causes for this error are that your permissions do not grant you access to the folder where the installed files are located or the path to the folder where the installation files are saved has more than 256 characters. However, we can
try a few troubleshooting methods and see if we can get the current version of the application uninstalled.



Method 1: Run Microsoft Fixit tool.

This tool will automatically repair the issues which prevent a program from being installed/uninstalled. Download the tool from the link below, run it and follow the onscreen instructions to allow this program to fix the problem.



Fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed



Method 2: Change folder permissions



If the above method doesn’t find and fix the issue, you may try changing the permissions of the folder where the current version of the program is installed. The default path would be C:\program files\EndNote and C:\program files86\EndNote if it is
a 32 bit program. Please follow the instructions given below.



Locate the installation folder as mentioned above.

Right click on it and select Properties.

Select the Security tab and click
Advanced,

Under Permissions section, click on
Change button, type Everyone,
then click Check Names and click Ok.

Check the box Replace owner on subcontainers and objects.

Click on Add and click on
Select a Principal.

Type Everyone, click
Check Names and then click Ok.

Check the checkbox for Full Control and click
Ok.

Click Apply and then click
Ok

Click Ok in the folder properties window to close it and try to uninstall the program.

Error 1305

Keep getting this error message during install:

error 1305 error reading from file

Have windows 10, have tried many troubleshooting methods but none have helped. Error says to make sure that the file exists (and it does) and most solutions say to change the permissions of the file but error remains. Suggestions?
