Windows 10: Unable to uninstall MS Windows Desktop Runtime within our enterprise.

My scenario is that we have 2000+ machines with old versions of MS Windows Desktop Runtime installed, and now they are showing up on our tenable vulnerability reports as .NET Core SEoL vulnerability. Basically, anything under v8 has to be removed. After downloading the dotnet-core-uninstall tool, and banging my head against the wall since it would not uninstall the versions that were in question, I realized that it was because the components were installed from another app named Microsoft Windows Desktop Runtime. I have tried every possible method of uninstalling this application remotely v

I am looking a best method to Identify and uninstall unwanted software or libraries (not sure all these are mandatory ) , example

My OS is recently upgraded to 11...

Microsoft Desktop runtime there are 3-4 versions installed on my machine

Microsoft .net Core Runtime 2-3 versions

Microsoft ASP.Net core 3 Versions

Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 10 Versions

Error: ucrtbase.terminate not located in the dynamic link library api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll

Open elevated cmd.
Type the following command: regsvr32 /u api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll.
Type the following command: regsvr32 /i api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll.
Close cmd. Shut down. Restart.

That being said, I also did a registry cleaning, and it also had a pending update that went through that was apparently awaiting a full shut down. It might very well have just been that.

Microsoft can nudge all they want, I'm keeping this older model laptop on 7, it's not powerful enough for the bloat of 10. I was very near to running a sfc scan (I was going to make that my last thing to set it to do before retiring to bed for the night) and then putting the windows disc in and repairing the install like you suggested tomorrow if the sfc repair didn't work.

I understand that you are facing issues with uninstalling PlayReady PC Runtime application, and I certainly appreciate your efforts in trying to resolve the issue by following certain troubleshooting steps.



Let’s try a couple of troubleshooting steps and see if that helps.



Method 1:



Try running the troubleshooter for uninstalling applications and see if that helps. Refer the article

Fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed



Method 2:



Run the command to uninstall PlayReady PC Runtime.

1. Now press Windows +
   S key together to open Search.
   
2. Now type CMD and select Run as administrator.
   
3. Accept the UAC prompts.
   
4. Type in the following commands one by one and hit
   Enter:
   
   MsiExec.exe /X{704ABF63-B0B1-446B-9D92-C5D06AFCE7B6}
   
5. Restart the PC.
