Windows 10: Unable to UNZIP

I keep getting an error message everytime I try to unzip files. For example: "One or more files could not be unzipped. the following files could no be opened or is not a valid Zip file. " Or it will say: "Cannot open file...It does not appear to be a valid archive. If you downloaded this file, try downloading the file again."I downloaded the file several times and it still keeps giving me the same error message. I have tried 7Zip, Rar, Winzip. Nothing works. I also checked the community exchange concerning this same problem that were posted way back 2015 but nothing helped including checking

you might face such issues if the file is zipped.

I suggest you to unzip the file and check.

To do so follow the steps below.

Open File Explorer and find the zipped folder.

• To unzip the entire folder, right-click (or press and hold) it, select
  Extract All, then follow the instructions.
• To unzip a single file or folder, double-click the zipped folder to open it. Then, drag or copy the item from the zipped folder to a new location.

unzip files in windows 10

I see multiple questions about unzipping files in windows 10 with the same exact response about opening the folder via 'windows icon +E' which I can use to open a folder but I get no option for unzipping other than I need to download Winzip. Is this functionality
not included in windows 10 as it has been previously? Please don't just post the same copy and paste response that didn't work for quite a few people based on comments from your site.
The steps below DO NOT WORK for windows 10. I've been using previous versions of windows for years and while this used to work it doesn't in your new version.

• Locate the zipped folder that you want to unzip (extract) files or folders from.
• Do one of the following:
  • To unzip a single file or folder, open the zipped folder, then drag the file or folder from the zipped folder to a new location.
  • To unzip all the contents of the zipped folder, press and hold (or right-click) the folder, select Extract All, and then follow the instructions.

 

How to Zip and Unzip with Windows 10?

I was unable to unzip a ".zip" file. I got stuck on step #2 -- upon double-clicking on the".zip" file, I get an error message saying "Application not found", and thus I never even reach steps 3 or 4.

So, my main question is: Does that mean that unzipping requires some software that doesn't automatically come with Windows 10? In other words, do I need to explicitly need to find, download, and install some external software -- on order to unzip a ".zip"
file?
