Windows 10: Unable to Update Windows 10 - PC keeps freezing on Restart

Custom-built PC

Windows 10 Version 1703 currently installed


IntelR CoreTM i5-7500 CPU @ 3.40GHz

16.0 GB Installed Ram

64-bit operating system, x64-based processor


I have been unable to update Windows 10 since I bought this system. Every time I attempt to, the update begins and will always freeze partway through. I'm forced to do a hard restart at this time where it will continue trying to update and freeze again. This will happen repeatedly until it will revert back to the previous settings and undo the update. Occasionally the update will get all the way to 100% but will still freeze before the update is fully installed.


I have run the Update Troubleshooter to no avail, and have tried all the fixes suggested in this thread as well: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...g/f0a49a22-cf1e-4c42-8cee-8ad865125fa0?auth=1 I have taken the unit to a repair shop where they recommended a fresh install of Windows 10, but I'd prefer not to do that if I don't have to.


Any other suggestions?
