Unable to view photos on external hard drive after resetting laptop.

Hey so I had recently restored my laptop to factory settings as it was having problems, but now I'm not able to view any photos and videos I had saved on a external hard drive. Now there is a lock on all the icon of all the videos/photos. When I try to open the file it says "It looks like you don't have permission to view this file. Check permissions an try again.", also when I try to copy the file it says "You require permission from Everyone to make changes to this file". When I try to right click and go to properties on the folder or file there is no 'Security Tab". I've searched everywhere

    :)

Unable to view photos on external hard drive

I recently formated my external hard drive and then recovered d files using a recovary tool but when i tried viewing the photos on it, it says "Windows photo Viewer can't open this picture because either the picture is deleted, or it's in a location that
    isnt available".

This is the same message i get trying to open any of the pictures in different folder in d external drive.

    Pls what can i do?

  3. Viewing Photos on External Hard Drive

This takes some time to explain so bear with me.

I have a desktop PC and a laptop both of which run Windows 10. I plan on buying another internal SSD for my desktop and moving my OneDrive folder to this new SSD. I upload all of my photos and videos to my OneDrive and I am about to become a father so photos
and videos will start taking up a lot of space. I plan on buying an external hard drive and setting it to automatically back up this new SSD, which means it will be backing up my OneDrive folder.

On my laptop, I have my entire OneDrive folder synced except my Pictures folder. I plan on keeping it this way as I only have 256 gb on my laptop. When I open Window's 10 photo app on my laptop, I have access to my OneDrive Pictures folder, except they are
all on the cloud and take a while to load. My question is this: When I plug in my external hard drive to my laptop, which contains a back up of my entire OneDrive folder, will I be able to view these photos through the photo app? If so, what will it
be like? I want to be able to look through each folder and do slide show. Will this be possible?

I also want to know how other people manage and view their photos on Windows 10. I enjoy OneDrive as I use an iPhone and I'm able to automatically sync all my iPhone photos and videos right into my OneDrive and then delete them. I had issues with iCloud
taking up significant space on my phone despite these photos being in a "cloud." I also like the way OneDrive syncs to the Windows 10 Photos app, giving me access to my folders. However, I have yet to bring in an external hard drive into the mix so perhaps
there is a better way to manage everything.

    Thank you for your time!

unrecognised external hard drive on Windows 10

Since you already reinstalled the drivers of the External Hard Drive, let's run the
Hardware and Devices troubleshooter as it can resolve your concern. You can do that by following these steps:

    • Press the Start button.

    • Type and select Troubleshooting.

    • Click on View all on the left panel.

    • Select and run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter.

If the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter doesn’t resolve your concern, we suggest that you change the letter of the External Hard Drive. You can do that by following these steps:

    • Press the Start button.

    • Type and select Control panel.

    • Select System and Security.

    • Select Administrative Tools, and a new window will appear.

    • Double-click Computer Management, and a new window will appear.

    • Select Disk Management that is located under
      Storage
      in the left pane.

    • Right click on the External Hard Drive that is not showing on the File Explorer.

    • Select Change letter and network path, and a new window will appear.

    • Select Change, and choose the letter that you want for the External Hard Drive.

After changing the letter of the External Hard Drive, we suggest that you reboot your laptop for the changes to take effect.

Let us know how it goes.

    Regards.
