Windows 10: Unattended sleep timer stopped working

I have a Windows 10 Pro installation that has the Unattended Sleep Timeout value set visible in Power settings and a timeout value of 10mins.

The computer has a scheduled task to wake at 05:00 each day and perform a backup which takes about 3-4 minutes.

For the past year this has worked reliably with the PC waking from sleep at 05:00, doing the backup and then resuming sleep approx. 05:13.

Since the latest uplift to Version 10.0.18363 Build 18363 the system has stopped going back to sleep after the backup.


No power settings have been adjusted and nothing has been changed with the backup software.


I have checked every power setting I can think of and even compared the relevant part of the registry with a different computer that is working correctly but can't see any differences.


There is no user input at 05:00 which would interrupt the unattended sleep timer and I cannot see any process running apart from an occasional Windows automatic update that would cause the PC not to resume sleep.


What can I do to determine what is preventing the unattended sleep timeout from being actioned?

W10 Unatttended sleep timer a BIG BIG BIG defect

The Windows Unattended Sleep timer does not work and never has. It should sleep the machine if and ONLY if it was a wakened from an unattended mode such as wake on LAN. Instead, it acts as though it is the regular sleep timer turning the machine off 2
minutes after I wake it by for example, moving the trackball or tapping a key.

To make it even worse the setting is not visible unless you make a registry change that 99 percent of users will never know how to do. PLEASE Microsoft, fix this.

If you want a STOP Music button for Radio…

There is now such option for FM radio that was introduced with recent update. You can post a suggestion for sleep timer function to be introduced in Wp8 radio, at WP Suggestion box.

If you would like to wake up with radio instead of alarm clock sound…

Some apps can do it but not with FM radio. Here is an example of such app:

Radio sleep timer

Is there a sleep timer that works for radio? I have "Stop Music" which works well with 'on board' music, but does not stop the 'X Box radio' available since Amber update. Great to have radio anyway ...
