Understanding how Windows 10 task manager reports memory usage

Hello, This is an extension to the following locked thread from a couple of years ago, which remained unresolved and the answer there was rather unsatisfactory IMO. Task Manager shows a huge amount of memory usage, though the Users tab only shows a fraction actually in use. The Performance tab always shows much higher used memory than the User tab, often double or more. From what I can tell the User tab value seems to be just the sum of all the application memory values in the Processes tab. The performance tab total used value remains a mystery, but that seems to be the actual used memory.

    :)

Windows 10 Task Manager to Get GPU Utilization Tab

Microsoft is working on an update to Windows 10, which among several other things, adds a GPU utilization tab to Task Manager. You will be able to monitor each individual GPU in your machine, and Task Manager will give you live utilization stats for the GPU's 3D load, Video hardware-acceleration (encode/decode) load, dedicated memory usage, shared memory usage, and basic driver information such as driver version and date. For now the update is part of Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 16226; and will make it to the main-release in the coming months.

Windows 10 High Memory Usage/Task Manage Inaccurate

So I have noticed games closing because of too much memory usage. So I opened up task manager to take a look.

With just Microsoft Edge open it says 40- 43% memory usage.

Now when I actually take a rough estimate of how much memory is being used by adding up all the values in task manager, it's a little over 1 gig.

So it seems that Windows 10 is using a lot of memory and task manger is either inaccurate or missing some of the programs using memory.
