    UNEXPECTED_KERNAL_MODE_TRAP

I am getting a handful of computers that continue to Blue Screen after the user locks the computer or when the computer locks itself. We are on 21h2 19044.1526 and all the drivers are updated and Windows is updated as well. Using a minidump analyzer it looks like ntoskrnl.exe is the cause of this bsod. Power and Sleep settings are set to never, along with hard drive set to 0. I have did sfc /scannow and dism /restorehealth with no luck. I have the mini dump files if someone can analyze it better. Its also not a RAM or HD issue, as the tests have come back with no issues.

    :)

    Unexpected_Kernal_Mode_Trap

I have tried all of the suggestions you list above and have disconnected every usb connected item save the keyboard and mouse (Ergonomic Natural 4000, and Sidewinder) and still have the problem.

    All tests reported no problems.

    chksdsk/f

    mdesched.exe

    sfc.exe

    sfc

    sfc/scannow

etc all as the computer administrator.

I need help with this as the computer is becoming unusable and I cannot revert to Win8.1

  3. Unexpected_Kernal_Mode_Trap

    Hi Kadorath,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community. Your interest in Windows 10 is highly appreciated.

I’m sorry to know that you are getting error "Unexpected_Kernal_Mode_Trap "in Windows 10. I apologize for the inconvenience caused to you. I will
be happy to assist you with this.

Please follow the below method and check if that helps.

Method 1: Disconnect all the external devices (printers, scanner, USB (universal serial bus) drives, etc...) Except mouse and the keyboard and then boot up.

If this corrects the issue then add the devices back one at a time until you discover the piece of hardware causing the issue. Then get updated drivers software for that particular device

    Method 2:
    Safe mode

I suggest you to boot the computer to Safe Mode and check if the issue occurs or not. Safe mode starts Windows with a limited set of files and drivers. Startup programs don't run in safe mode, and only the basic drivers needed
to start Windows are installed. Follow the article below to boot the computer to safe mode.

Refer the article to boot to Safe Mode:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-safe-mode

    Method 3: Run Memory Diagnostics

I suggest you to run Windows Memory Diagnostics utility.
Windows includes built-in features to help you identify and diagnose problems with memory. Refer to the steps below:

    • Press Windows key + R on the Keyboard.
    • Type mdsched.exe in the Search box, and then press Enter.
    • Choose whether to restart the computer and run the tool immediately or schedule the tool to run at the next restart.
    • Windows Memory Diagnostics runs automatically after the computer restarts and performs a standard memory test automatically. If you want to perform fewer or more tests, press F1, use the Up and Down arrow keys to set the
Test Mix as Basic, Standard, or Extended, and then press F10 to apply the desired settings and resume testing.
    • When testing is completed, the computer restarts automatically. You’ll see the test results when you log on.
    Method 4:
    Run Check Disk

I suggest you to run Check Disk which performs an analysis of the disk. Refer to the steps below:

    • Press Windows key + X.
    • Click on Command prompt (Admin).
    • Type chkdsk /f and hit
      enter
      .
NOTE: The root drive has to be C: and the command may schedule a task at the system startup, if it does, then press
Y to schedule a task and restart the computer to perform chkdsk.

Important: While performing chkdsk on the hard drive if any bad sectors are found on the hard drive when chkdsk tries to repair that sector if any data available on that might
    be lost.

Please let us know, if you need any further help and we would be glad to assist you further.

    Thank you.

    Unexpected_Kernal_Mode_Trap error on boot up

    Hi.

Since the 14th of July I've been getting the BSOD error Unexpected_Kernal_Mode_Trap every time I start my laptop. It'll sit on the Dell screen for a few minutes before crashing. I'm running Windows 10 64-bit.

Here is what I know and tried so far:

    • I tried doing System Restores. This worked for a while but stopped.
    • I can get into Safe Mode without issue
    • I have run sfc scannow which came back with zero errors
    • I have run a program called MemTest86+ to test for memory problems. It did a total of 14 passes with zero error.
Chances are it's a driver causing the error, most likely a graphics card driver.

I have uploaded four DMP files to OneDrive. Three of the are from today (19th) and one from the 16th. There are no earlier ones that I can see. http://1drv.ms/u/s!Akau5fjnCLuFiAe7F1muxbWTwMDO

    Any help is appreciated.
