Windows 10: Unexplained GB loss/increase. Advice needed urgently.

A major scare came in mid-March as a torrent site seemed to have booby trapped content; as soon it was downloaded then within 24-72 hours memory use increased, speed decreased with internal GB out 930 decreasing by 3-5, if not by 7 or 8 within an eight hour basis. The situation called for quick permanent deletion of files almost every two days to compensate. Speed and interactivity took a nosedive at times when that shouldn't have been the case. Within two weeks I had removed all torrents and downloaded files associated with the site to see a positive change in my PC.My HP Notebook has been w

Okay I don't see any known troublemakers in the shell extensions shown in explorer tab.





Would suggest checking for updates for the softwares listed and installing updates if available.

 

Nokia X6 - unexplained active connection

oh dear - another unexplained connection established this morning!



i've checked the packet data setting - it was set to "when needed".



I've taken the bold step of deleting "Vodafone internet GPRS" from the list of internet destinations. I now only have wifi connections stored in the internet destinations folder.



I expected therefore to now be unable to connect to the internet via GPRS, and this has indeed happened. I will phone vodafone and get them to resend the GPRS settings via text.



Boring.



In the meantime i know for sure that the phone won't be able to establish any unexplained connections!



the mystery continues though.....



i'll wait a while though - something (an app) may prompt me that it wants to connect to the internet and so i'll hopefully be able to identify the culprit then!
