Windows 10: Unidentifiable And Persistent Folders Being Created In Documents

Hi there.

This has been bugging me for some time, but hasn't been a critical issue, it just causes organisation problems.


So I have a desktop which runs an SSD as the main drive, and a hard drive for mass storage and non essential programs.


At some point I believe I have installed a program or something which now creates these folders in my documents as some sort of cache feature I guess?

The folder names are 2 characters long. Either numbers only, letters only or a combination of the two. Examples names "86" or "E0" or "1A"

Sometimes the folder contains a file sometimes it doesn't. When they have a file it is called called something like "a8067259a59c3c2ba153cb43545c7b93bab263fd.file"


I have tried deleting the folders, which gets rid of them only until the next boot up. They return with more random names. As time goes on they are building up if I don't delete them.


I cannot see any obvious way of identifying what is generating them in the properties of the folder.


Any ideas on how to identify the issue and get rid of the annoying folders for good?

Downloads folder is the Documents folder

I suggest you to Restore to Default the folders and document settings and see if it helps.

Step 1:

Please follow below steps and check if it helps.

• Go to Download folder.
• Right click on the Download Folder and go to Properties.
• In Properties go to Location tab.
• In location Tab Click on Restore Default.

Step 2:

Please follow below steps and check if it helps.

• Go to Documents folder.
• Right click on the Document folder and go to Properties.
• In Properties go to Location tab.
• In location Tab Click on Restore Default.

After performing above steps change the settings as you required and check if it helps.

Folder Freeze when trying to click on a Word Document. HELP

Hi there,

I came across a very weird bug/issue.

Use Case

Step 1: Create a word document on Desktop and name it TestFreeze

Step 2: Test that you can open the word document and write something like 'Testing freeze folder' ->save it

Step 3: Create a folder on Desktop and name it FreezeMe

Step 4: Copy 'TestFreeze' document in the 'FreezeMe' folder

Step 5: Open the 'FreezeMe' folder and select/click 'TestFreeze' document

Result: Folder Not Responding

Additional Information

I have run some tests and it does not matter:

• if it is a new or old Microsoft word file
• if the document has content in it or not
• if it has a long/short name or special characters
• it does not matter the folder or the name of the folder in which you put the file in

I also tried with an excel file and seems that I do not experience the same issue.

Microsoft version: 16.0.9330.2073

Windows version: 10.0.17134 Build 17134 with all updates up to date

If there is anything else I can provide to help sort this out, please do let me know.

Opened to any suggestions on how to fix this, as it is very frustrating.

Merge Document Folders

Bob,

To remove any need for cross-referencing to that other thread I gave you a link to, here are the paras I was suggesting that you consider.

1 You can create a folder structure of your own on the HDD and just start using it. No grand schemes are required. No OS alterations are required.
- It is common to have the following folders but they can be named & arranged however you want: Documents, Music, Videos, Pictures.
- You will probably also want to create a Desktop folder [see #4 below].
- You can also divide Documents into subfolders for your main lines of effort and each of these can be further subdivided.
- Just by way of example & nothing more, my own Documents folder is divided into: Business, Personal, Common, Suppliers, InfoSys

2 You can augment that by opening each one of your applications and saving a test file to your Documents folder then opening a test file from that folder. Doing this makes most applications look there first in the future and that saves messing about browsing around the folders.

3 You can augment that by checking the Options / Preferences within each of you applications to see if a default folder can be nominated there as well.

4 You can augment that by 'relocating' the Desktop user folder [that has been created by Windows] to your HDD.
- This is by default in C:\Users\[YourUserName]\Desktop but the system can be told to use the folder you have created on your HDD instead.
- The TenForumsTutorial listed above can walk you through the whole procedure.

5 You can augment that by 'relocating' other user folders [that have been created by Windows] such as the Documents, Music, Videos, Pictures to your HDD.
- These are by default in C:\Users\[YourUserName]\Documents etc but the system can be told to use the folders you have created on your HDD instead.
- The TenForumsTutorials listed above can walk you through the whole procedure for each one.
- Not everybody bothers with this step and some think that it conveys no benefit. I have done each of them.
