Windows 10: Uninstall/Reinstall Conexant SmartAudio HD Drivers

I occasionally need to reinstall the Conexant SmartAudio HD drivers to fix my laptop's audio.

When I do the uninstallation, should the "Delete the driver software for this device" checkbox be checked or clear?

For future reference, if I guess wrong on the previous question, would a restore point fix it?

No Sound After Windows 10 Build 10240

I was able to resolve my problem by uninstalling and then reinstalling the Conexant SmartAudio HD audio driver.

 

No Sound on offline videos/mp3 after Windows 10 Pro upgrade

I have Lenovo U410 Touch ideapad.

I managed to sort the issues out by uninstalling the sound driver.

Control Panel>System>Device Manager>Sound, video and game controllers

Under Sound, video and game controllers I had Conexant
SmartAudio HD and Intel (R) Display Audio, then I uninstalled Conexant SmartAudio HD driver. My problem was solved after uninstalling Conexant SmartAudio HD driver. Although I didn't reinstall the driver, after doing
1 update for Windows 10 today and restarting the system I got the same driver automatically, but I don't have any problem now with offline/online videos' sound.

Hi, you'd only choose to delete the driver if you thought it was corrupt or useless - and in particular if you wished to force your PC to download a new copy. If you're happy for your PC to install the same version from the same source, leave it.

You shouldn't have to keep reinstalling it. Sthg wrong there.

You can always obtain a new copy one way or another.

 

I have the most recent copy of the Lenovo driver, but I'm not sure about the installation procedure. I think the most recent glitches were probably caused by Equalizer64APO.

 

Hi, installation- options:

If you wish you can download the latest from your manufacturer's site (the first recommendation for laptops). Even if the drivers for Win 10 are not available- perhaps only for Win 7 or Win 8 depending on age of PC- some people find older drivers work better. If so you then need to protect that from being overwritten by Windows. (Tutorial section has a guide).

If happy with whatever Windows provides for your driver, then you need do nothing.

You can also launch Device Manager, rt click the device, navigate to the appropriate tab and try updating the driver manually.

Other options there include rolling back the driver to a previous one, if available.

Remember, Windows maintains your main drivers, so if you want anything different to what Windows offers you must protect that driver.

 

I have the same problem. Discovered it when Skyping. Intermittent - goes for days with no issues hen suddenly the device is still there but microphone not registering any sounds *sarc So I uninstall the driver and let Windows discover the "new" hardware, and magically the mic is working again. A real pain in the butt

 

In my case, the problem seems to have been caused by upgrading from W8.1. When I clean installed W10, the problem went away.

 

This is a factory-installed Win10 laptop so that shouldn't be an issue. I've seen this reported on the Lenovo support forum and no-one seems to have an answer other than that the connexant drivers aren't stable :-(
