  1. Uninstall Retail Activation Key from a computer to use in a new one?

Hi everyone, I’m on the fence about getting Windows 10 and I would like for know the following:

If I activate my Windows 10 Retail Key with one computer and the hard drive breaks, how is the key transferable to a new computer?

Similarly if I format my computer (to sell/give away) will the product key be disassociated with that device and available to use on another computer.

I plan to use Windows 10 with an old computer I have, but I would like to be able to uninstall the license, to transfer it to a new computer in the future. If I could get clarification on how that works I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks in advance fam.

Activation:"Digital License" form in-use before input of Retail Key...

If you are trying to upgrade from Home to Pro, just change the product key on the activation screen from the settings menu. If your new retail version of Windows 10 is the same edition as what you had installed previously, you wasted your money. But you can, if you really, really want to just enter the product key on the same activation screen.

To get to the activation screen, click on the start icon, then the settings icon. Click on Update & Security, then Activation in the list on the left.

As a side note, if this is a retail off-the-shelf preassembled computer then the OEM product key for Windows 8 or 10 is stored in the computer's firmware on the motherboard and Windows setup will read that product and install the matching edition of Windows 10 without any user intervention.

Transferring a Windows 10 Product Key to a new computer

You cannot use OEM key to activate other devices. But I have seen cases where in it will activate.

You will have to follow below steps to activate on new device:

Open cmd as admin (on new computer)

    Slmgr -upk (enter)

    Slmgr -cpky

    Slmgr -rilc

Slmgr -ipk XXXXX-XXXX-..... (your pk key)

    Slmgr -ato

This should activate on new device. Before purchasing a key I'll suggest you try above steps because I have done in the past and it had worked.

Uninstall Retail Activation Key from a computer to use in a new one?

Moving to new computer - activation question

You guys are right... there is a local KMS spoof exploit installed.

Check the key MS sent with ShowKeyPlus as suggested... I assume it's retail and thus should work on the new mobo.

I don't see why you needed to get a new key as a retail Windows 8 key should have worked unless it has been blocked, but either of those should work on the new mobo - if not run ADT so that we can get some technical info to work with.
