  1. Uninstalled Laptop Wi-Fi Driver and Unable to Reinstall It

Hello! I have an ASUS X441U laptop running Windows 10 and have been having issues connecting to Wi-Fi. Ethernet works, but wireless does not. In device manager I checked for updates for the wifi driver, "Realtek 8821AE Wireless LAN 802.11ac PCI-E NIC", and it said device is up to date. I decided to uninstall the driver from device manager to manually update it. I downloaded the driver from the Realtek website here , unzipped the download, ran the setup, and rebooted my computer. Went back to device manager, hit scan for hardware changes and nothing happened. The Realtek driver didn't show up under Network Adapters, even when I selected view hidden devices. I've tried lots of solutions I found online and restarted my computer several times, with no luck. Any suggestions on what I should do?

  2. Planning to Reinstall Wi-Fi Driver

I'm planning to try reinstalling my wi-fi driver to see whether that fixes some Internet problems I'm having, but I need some questions answered first. I downloaded "WLAN Driver (Atheros, Realtek, Broadcom, Intel) for Windows 10 (64-bit) - Notebook" from Lenovo, but some of their drivers refuse to install on my Lenovo G50-70 w/W10 even though the download page specifically says that the driver is for Lenovo G50-70s w/W10.

    1. When reinstalling the wi-fi driver, is it necessary to uninstall the driver inside Device Manager beforehand?
    2. If I uninstall the driver inside Device Manager and the downloaded driver won't install, will restarting Windows restore the default driver like it does with the audio drivers, and will going back to a restore point restore the driver?
    3. Is there anything else I need to know?

  3. Wi-Fi errors (Windows 10)

I'm currently troubleshooting a HP laptop (HP G62-a10SQ to be more specific). The problem is that it doesn't want to connect to any Wi-Fi network. It leaves me with the generic error "Can't connect to this network." I've tried these steps so far

    • Restarting the computer
    • Flushing DNS
    • Releasing and renewing the ipconfig
    • Uninstalling the driver
    • Reinstalling the driver
    • Reseating the Wi-FI module
    • Checking Windows Update for any drivers
    • Updating the driver in Device Manager
    • Temporarily removing my Wi-Fi encryption
    • Trying to connect to a different Wi-Fi network outside of my network
    • Probably more troubleshooting steps I can't remember atm (I will edit the post if I remember anything)

Uninstalled Laptop Wi-Fi Driver and Unable to Reinstall It

    Planning to Reinstall Wi-Fi Driver

I would try a "refresh" first before attempting to install a new driver. Go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for the Wi-Fi and then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NO uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the Wi-Fi. This fixes a lot of flakey problems.
