  1. Unintended remote wake from sleep

    Dear Community

I recently noticed that my PC and laptop have a strange connection regarding sleep mode.

When my PC goes into sleep mode and my laptop is running it almost instantly boots back up.

When he goes to sleep while my laptop is in sleep or not running he stays in sleep until I boot my laptop.

I did not notice a similar behavior the other way around so far.

The two devices are in the same network connected by Ethernet. Both cables go into a switch and to the router from there.

This doesn't happen if I use a WiFi connection for my laptop.

Strangest thing is that I cant ping either device from the other and only the laptop can ping the router.

Pinging network devices from my PC gives me a "general failure".

From the laptop it works except the PC where I get "request timed out".

I am up to date with updates even did the big feature one also happened before.

If you need any additional information I will provide it.

Thank you and happy new year!

    :)

  2. wake from sleep issue in windows 10

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your reply. Apologize for the delay in response.

I suggest you to check which devices are configured to wake up the computer from sleep by following the steps below:

    • Right click on Start icon and select Command Prompt (Admin).
    • Type the command line below:
    Powercfg /devicequery wake_armed

    3. Check if the devices (Keyboard, Mouse, Ethernet cable) are listed.

If the system is not going to sleep and going to Hybernate, the only option to wake up is to press the Power button.

    Hope the information is helpful.

Remote Desktop - Remote Computer is Sleeping

Got a question that I could answer if I was at the office to try it... Trying to connect remotely to an HP desktop at work.

If the HP is in sleep mode, I can't remote into it. Here's the scenario: Couldn't remote into the HP... Called a co-worker he noticed is was in power saving mode & moved the mouse, it woke up. Then I was able to remote in.

Would "Wake on Lan" in BIOS allow me to wake up the computer through a remote desktop login request? Are there other settings?

EDIT: Both PC's on XP Pro 32
