So I had an HP laptop running Windows 7 and decided to upgrade it. But there were some problems, please look at this question I previously asked to get a better context of my situationhttps://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...er-start/9afc5bde-57ae-44f4-8191-cda825782cdf

I had three partitions on my HDD on chose to install Windows 10 on the the third partition E:.

Basically, I had Windows 7 and Windows 7 EMS enabled running and chose to upgrade on the regular Windows 7 and for some reason in Windows 10, after entering my password at the login screen, the desktop would just turn black, with only the cursor showing. Frustrated with the methods listed to mein the thread not working and not wanting to do a clean install, I decided to delete Windows 10 by booting into Windows 7, which worked fine. So I deleted some important files from the E: drive where I installed Windows 10.I expected that instead of asking me everytime I start the laptop, which OS to boot into, Windows 7 or 10, it would directly boot into Windows 10. But when I boot up again, it shows "Preparing Automatic Repair". Now I shut down my laptop then hard shutdown. What do I do now? Assuming the repair goes well and fine, I am pretty sure that windows 10 still won't work. I want to uninstall Windows 10 from my laptop and use only Windows 7 on it. If there s a better way like completely skipping Automatic Repair and being able to boot into Windows 7, which is on my C: drive, please tell me.

    :)

    laptop doesnt boot automatically

    This is what happened.

    1. Did a repair install and later disabled hibertnate in CMD.
    2. Enabled legacy option ROM in BIOS.
    3. After a few times startup ( i used the system in such mode for 5 days), changed boot option back to default.
    4. Vola!! It boots automatically to win10 without any keypress. Tested it with many starts to confirm the same.
    5. Re-enabled hibernate option using CMD and later selected Fast Startup.
    6. System booted normally, without the need for any keypress.

I do not know exactly whether such steps resolved the problem or what else happened, hence cannot suggest above steps.

Many thanks to all members who helped to troubleshoot problems.

  3. Automatic Repair Loop

    Hi Charlene,

Your concern regarding the device going into an Automatic Repair Loop can be caused by change on its settings/configuration or broken system files. To effectively assist you with your concern, can confirm if you've made any changes on your device prior to
    your concern?

As an initial step to get back into the normal Windows screen, we suggest that you perform a
Startup repair. The repair will attempt to fix any broken components/files which may prevent your device from booting properly. To do this, follow the steps below:

    • On theAutomatic Repair screen, select Advanced options.
    • Select Troubleshoot.
    • Select Advanced options.
    • Select Startup Repair.

We'll appreciate if you can send us an update.
