Windows 10: "Unknown Account" with SID in Windows Security

There are a lot of occurrences out there for the is problem on the web looking for a fix! Trying to remove these "Unknown Accounts" produces erroer codes, one of which, is telling us the removal needs to be done at the parent directory.


Nothing I read had an effective way to find out where these "Unknown Accounts" came from.


I removed them at the parent.


Then I got back to Sleep issues and it turns out the SIDs were media devices on the Home LAN by troubleshooting with powercfg -requests and tracking down:


SYSTEM:

[PROCESS] \Device\Harddiskvolume4\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmpnetwk.exe

Media Sharing has been enabled through windows media player.


Will those connections reestablish and reflect the right account name on their own or do I have to do something?

The Account Unknown with SID (security identifier) indicates the User Profile which is no longer exists. You can see this, when account may not be removed correctly. Since you have only one User Account on your PC, I suggest
you to go for a complete system scan with Windows Defender to see if any malware causing this issue.

Going forward, I suggest you to keep your PC up to date with Windows Updates to make your PC run smooth:

• Press Windows logo + R keys, enter
  ms-settings: and then press OK. This opens Settings.
• In Settings, go to Update & security > Windows Update, and then select
  Check for updates. Install any available updates and restart your PC if required.

The mysterious unknown account: Threat or harmless bug?


Well, this one may be different. Notice that this particular SID is not a user account SID, it's what is called an "application SID" in order to specify permissions for application containers. Windows 10 is using these all over the place, which can complicate things considerably. The fact that this is listed as an "Account Unknown" does not necessarily mean that it's not needed. As a matter of fact, in the case of the SID above I have seen reports of people having deleted the SID from permissions, only to end up with a broken system (Edge crashing on launch, etc., etc.) Fixing such a system is possible, but not straightforward, and will require some PowerShell wizardry...

So when is MS gonna deal with this issue? Remove them if I don't need them?
