  2. Installing to a second Drive. D: or external (Non Boot up Drives)

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

We understand your concern as you are looking for an option to move the game location from the C drive to the Drive D, which is an external drive.

In this scenario, we would suggest you to perform these steps and check if that resolves your issue on both laptop and Desktop.

    1. As usual install the game on the PC’s in
      C Drive.
    2. Insert the external
      D drive
      to the PC.
    3. Press Windows + I key from the keyboard to launch
      Settings.
    4. Select Apps and click on
      Apps & features
      from the left pane.
    5. Search for the installed game from the list on the right pane.
    6. Single click on the game and select
      Move.
    7. Select the D drive under
      Choose a drive
where you want to move the game.
    8. Restart the PC with the external drive connected and then launch the game.

    We await your response.

    D and E drives

    Hi John

Are your D and E drives internal to your PC or are those external drives, connected via USB?

Connect those drives, if they are external drives

Open Disk Management (accessible by right clicking your Start Menu)

Please provide a screenshot of that Disk Management window . . .

External Hard Drive mixing up ports E and D

My question is similar to this one:

External Hard Drive mixing up USB ports E and F

But my laptop has 1 SSD with the extension C: (no problem there), and one HDD currently E:, but it was originally D:

I suspect that this changed when I plugged in an external hard drive to transfer some files. So everything that was installed on my HDD when it was D: doesn't work properly anymore but since it changed to E: I've installed some new stuff.

The problem is, if I change the drive back to D: the newer softwares are going to not work. But right now the older stuff doesn't work. Does anyone know why this is happening? Also, if I change it back to D: then connect the external hard drive will it change
to E: again? I've also tried to uninstall the apps that were installed onto D: but it doesn't let me because "Invalid Drive D:/".
