    file clogging up C: drive


    I was running WinDirStat to try and clear some space in my C: drive when I noticed that there appears to be a 101.8 Gb file that is "<Unknown>". I have been unable to find any information regarding this file online and want ot make sure it's safe to remove without any adverse effects.

    Then I would try making a backup and then immediately restore from the backup, using the bootable Macrium media to do the restoration.

    If the C: drive was the larger of the two, then it looks like Macrium will erase that "unknown" file. Ofc, it may come back, over time, depending on where it came from to begin with.



    /e I'd test it for you, but I don't have a mysterious "unknown" file. *cry

    I see a file with an unknown name occupying about 21 percent of the drive.

    Not much help without a name.

    It appears to be in the root of C.

    Looks like a file, not a directory?

    Try another app like Tree Size Free.
