Windows 10: unknown, Not initialize, unallocated external hard disk want to initialize

Discus and support unknown, Not initialize, unallocated external hard disk want to initialize in Windows 10 Drivers and Hardware to solve the problem; I wanted to initialize unknown, unallocated,not initialize external hard disk, but when I go to disk manager and try to initialize the message pop up...     unknown, Not initialize, unallocated external hard disk want to initialize


    I wanted to initialize unknown, unallocated,not initialize external hard disk, but when I go to disk manager and try to initialize the message pop up "Virtual disk manager access denied".


    Secondly, drive do not have any letter, and I CAN'T to assign letter to drive in order to go for chkdsk in prompt command. when I right click on unknown & unallocated drive then there is only option left are properties help and offline.


    My question is how can I initialize the drive or bring the status online in order to assign drive letter and initialize the disk?

    please I need help on how to format an external hard drive which disk management describes as unknown, not initialized and unallocated. when I try to initialized using both diskpart and disk management, it says disk is not ready.

    Thanks Dennis for your kind assistance on this but I have tried all the options you suggested and the disk still reads as not ready when I try to initialize. This is a Seagate backup plus external drive. What else can I do?

    Did you use diskpart to clean the drive first?

    6. Open a Command Prompt W/ administration rights.

    ○ Type in "DiskPart" in command line.

    ○ Type in "list disk" in command line to show all disks in this machine.

    ○ Use "select" to set the focus to the specified partition.

    For example "select disk 1".

    ○ Use "clean" command to remove GPT disk from the current in-focus disk by zeroing sectors.

    ○ Use "Exit" to Close Disk Part.

    1. Go back to Disk Management, you can see GPT disk is "Not Initialized" now.

    2. Within Disk Management, right click on disk info, choose "Initialize Disk", You can see GPT disk is "Unallocated" now.

    3. Right click on disk info, choose "New Partition…", follow Partition Wizard and format it.
