    Unknown, Uninitialised drive.


    I know that similar problem had occured here many times already, however no solution I found and felt safe enough to execute worked.I recently installed a new internal drive on my computer and found out in disk manager that this disk is Unknown, uninitialised, uninitialasable whenever I try it results in error "incorrect function" and that windows doesn't show this disk volume.And before anyone asks, I connected this disk with completely new cable, so I don't think that it's an issue with the cable.If it's of any help, linux also had problems with recognising this disk and marked it as sg0.

    Hi Harold,

    The unknown drive could be a system recovery drive or some other drive which you don't have access to it. You may follow these steps to check what kind of drive it is:

    • Click on Search bar.
    • Type diskmgmt.msc.
    • Check description of the ESP (FUnknown, Uninitialised drive. :) drive. Also check whether the drive is recovery drive or System Drive.

    Swapping your respondent's badge against a poster's badge? I assume you're posting this question on behalf of a client . . .

    As you know, you can use some partition recovery tool. The question is whether it would work on an uninitialised disk. I would run the following experiment:

    1. Take a spare hard disk.
    2. Copy a few files and folders to it.
    3. Run diskpart.exe under an elevated Command Prompt.
    4. Use the "clean" command to uninitialise the disk. I'm sure I don't need to tell you to be careful.
    5. Download some partition recovery tool. Most come with a trial mode.
    6. See if you can recover any partition and perhaps some data.
    7. If not, initialise the disk via the Disk Manager.
    8. Repeat Step 7.
