Windows 10: Unknown USB Device Port Reset Failed caused by Docking station

When I use a docking station my USB port sometimes stops working and in device manager I see the error "Unknown USB Device Port Reset Failed" I've tried numerous solutions mentioned online but they seem to be not working. The only options I have is:Not working solutions:Check for BIOS UpdatesEnable Always on USB from BIOSDisable USB Selective SuspendTry a Different USB Port or CableCheck for Hardware Damage:Update the USB driver in device managerRemove the device from device managerWorking solutions, however very intrusive:Go back to the office, plugin the docking station and plug it out.Ope

As I can see you are still getting the same error ‘unknown USB device (port reset failed)’. But don’t worry, you can try the below-working solution to tackle the situation:

1. Unplug USB & Reboot Computer
   
2. Try A Different USB Port
   
3. Uninstall & Install A USB Driver Again
   
4. Change Setting Of The Power Management
   
5. Disable Quick Startup
   
6. Connect USB To Another PC.

Unknown USB Device (Port Reset Failed)

Hi Jhakesong, I've tried the suggestions you've given, but unfortunately, I've had no success with it.

I opened device manager again and uninstalled the 3 USB Root Hubs I have and restarted my computer. The drivers upon bootup have been reinstalled but the same two ports fail to recognize any device inputted. Unknown USB Device (Port Reset Failed) is still present and it appears as though this method did not work. Is there anything else I can try? Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.

 

USB Docking Station stopped functioning on USB3 Ports

Hello all, I have been trying to fix this issues for weeks now and I have no clue how to continue. I am trying to get several different USB Docking Stations over USB3 to work in my computer with no luck. The exact error description is as follows: USB Docking Station incl. Ethernet, HDMI Displays and several other ports works fine over Legacy USB Ports. The speed is very limited due to the limits of USB itself. As soon as I connect the dock to any USB 3+ (also the USB Type-C) connecter, the displays wont work at all. Everything else on the dock works fine just the displays dont work. The strange thing is that it used to work a couple month ago. All of a sudden, the dock stopped working on USB 3 connects (the blue ones). But to me it looks like the ports have not issue. USB Sticks etc. still work fine. Another USB Dock shows the same behavior so the dock seems to be okay. I have attached a screenshot of how it looks like when the dock is connected to USB2. The marked entries in the screenshot are simply not present, when connected to USB3. What I've done so far:

• Upgrade literally all drivers to the latest version (incl. chipset drivers)
• Upgrade Bios to the latest version
• Tested several docks (they work as expected on my second laptop)
• Tried all USB ports incl. USB Type-C and front panel USB's
• Checked UsbTreeView to see whats happening. The screens are simply not there. My dock uses DisplayLink technology

Here are my specs:

• ASRock B450m Pro4 Mainboard
• AMD Ryzen 3 2200G CPU (Raven Ridge)
• 16GB DDR4 Memory, running at 3000MHz
• NVidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti
• Running Windows 10 64bit
