Windows 10: Unlock a device I locked by find my device

I locked a device when the person i gave the device didn’t return it the day they mentioned they would return, they returned my device just now and i cannot find any unlock option in my phone in the Microsoft site which i used to lock the device using this Microsoft account. The message shown in my laptop after entering my PIN is as follows: “An administrator has restricted sign in. To sign in, make sure your device is connected to the internet, and have your administrator sign in first”. My device the laptop which is locked is connected to the internet and i have signed into my Microsoft

Unlock device after remotely locked

I am wondering what is the step to do to unlock a Surface Book device that I have locked it remotely? Is the other user can still sign in after I lock it remotely?

I have it with my staff right now, but I need to lock it since his contract is over before he could return it to the office.

 

Can't unlock a find my device locked device

Used "Find My Device" to lock a missing device and now there seems to be no way to unlock it.

I understand your desire to try to unlock your device since you've found it after remotely locking it. I am here to help and let us work on this together. You may try to unlock your device by booting it into safe mode and uncheck the account is disabled. You may follow the steps below.

1. Hold down the power button for 10 seconds to turn off your device.
   
2. Press the power button again to turn on your device.
   
3. On the first sign that Windows has started hold down the power button for 10 seconds to turn off your device.
   
4. Press the power button again to turn on your device.
   
5. When Windows restarts, hold down the power button for 10 seconds to turn off your device.
   
6. Press the power button again to turn on your device.
   
7. Allow your device to restart into Automatic Repair and select Advanced options to enter WinRE.
   

Now that you are in WinRE, you will follow these steps to take you to safe mode:

1. On the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
   
2. After your device restarts, you’ll see a list of options. Select option 5 from the list or press F5 for Safe Mode with Networking.
   

If you can enter system through safe mode, you can try unlocking your account by right-clicking on Start > Open the Computer Management > Local Users and Groups > Users > Double click on your account > Uncheck the Account is disabled.

If that didn't work, you may need to factory reset your Surface device from the sign in screen. Here’s how:

1. On your keyboard, press the Windows logo key + L. If you need to, dismiss the lock screen.
   
2. Hold the Shift key down while you select Power > Restart in the lower-right corner of the screen.
   
3. After your Surface restarts to the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot > Reset this PC.
