I can say with experience that the Intel Rapid Storage Technology service could have a great chance of being the cause *Wink

  3. I think you might be right, axe0!

The machine hasn't died in several days since I disabled all those services *Smile

I've not used chrome since, either - since it crashed often and messed up the nvidia drivers.
I will reinstall chrome later on so we can see if it was a problem in any way.

Gotta add a check for the IRST to all BSOD's i get in future Unpredictable and random BSODs - Frustration Factor: Chainsaw :p

Thanks! I think that the problems that have been plaguing me for years have been fixed!

    You're welcome *Smile

IRST supports mainly RAID setups, with IRST the performance might be a little bit better.
But mostly it is smart to disable / remove IRST.

  5. hehe, last night - i was rendering a video while playing it in RAM preview in after effects, while copying large objects between some heavy photoshop files and... the machine crashed...

(felt it happening about 30 mins before it happened... a disturbance in the force when the preview wasn't buffering as well).

It said, "faulty_hardware_caused_error", or something... I'm assuming RAM, since that was the thing working hardest, I guess along with the scratch disk. The problems are always memory related.

I guess that forcing it too hard with so much memory use is showing the cracks in the previous blue screens.
And, I reinstalled Chrome as win10 support for html5 is abysmal - it's the only browser that will not crash when using a certain html tool...

Even though changing all that stuff helped and probably fixed it, it might be that the drivers' misbehaviour stemmed from an issue with the hardware all along.
I hope not, but, you know...

One thing that is weird is - ever since that crash last night, windows explorer will open 2x folders on double click. It is very confusing, as if you don't notice - it splits the search bar entries between them... one is searching for *. and the other jpg.

I wonder if this is a symptom of the faulty_hardware BSOD, or a windows bug..?

Either way, I will start saving for new RAM and to replace the remaining 2 physical disc drives with SSD's one day.

This sounds to me more like a bug in Windows, that Windows cannot handle such memory usage or not properly.

Does your pc crash when you do either of the things you did?

That might be a setting issue
