Windows 10: Unreliable internet/download faliures

I live in a very rural area; no cable service, no cell phone service, and the nearest groceries/gas is 15 miles away (one way). You get the picture. My so-called "high speed "internet is capped at 1.5 Mbps, with only 80% of that rate "guaranteed". Reality is that I rarely get more than 0.8 Mbps and experience frequent drop outs. Since everything is going to the "cloud" and downloads instead of discs, what is the best way to deal with the inability to download programs, updates, and upload/download data? Getting Office installed on my new desktop took numerous calls to support; the resolution was to download Office 2016 as a .img on a USB drive at work, take it home, and load it on my new computer. I could only get Office 2016; Office 2019 was "too large" according to tech help. I see this problem only getting worse. Many residents -including myself- have tried routinely complaining to CenturyLink with no results. Ideas?

Internet Downloads

Thanks all for the useful suggestions, i certainly can understand the idea of refreshing downloads. I wish Firefox had that little button lol. Now i'll try and download Warrock (a great FREE game) with download manager though (annoyingly) firefox is now downloading without buggering up!
I just did a few spyware scans which though didn't stop the probs it probably did stop all thoses bloody programs from using the internet and slowing it down.

More importantly it would take the entire UK economy a step backwards if 6 million people were to get banned...

Try the following steps:

  Click "Search" and type "Troubleshooting" without quotes and hit enter.

  Click “View All”

  Select "Internet Explorer connection"
