  1. Unsupported file type in windows mail app

Hey all!I just recently upgraded to windows 11. I am now unable to upload python .py files as attachments. I used to be able to do this.It seems odd as I'm allowed to upload files from other langs .cpp, .cs, and .java as they all work properly. I can even upload csv files and almost everything else. What is up with windows 11 and why does it not let me upload .py files? It shouldn't matter what the extension is, as it's just text. I can just change the extension and instruct whoever I'm sending the file to on the proper extension to get around this but it's really frustrating that this doe

Mail app will not open on 10041.

    Hello Adam,

This is the suggested solution below if you haven't already tried it. Unsupported file type in windows mail app :)

In this Windows 10 build 10041, the Mail, Calendar, and People apps may be broken due to a licensing issue with the Store Beta. To get these apps working again, you need to follow these steps:

    • Open powershell as administrator
    • Run the command Get-appxprovisionedpackage –online | where-object {$_.packagename –like “*windowscommunicationsapps*”} | remove-appxprovisionedpackage –online
    • Re-install Mail, People and Calendar from the Store (green tile)

Windows 10 Mail App - downloading unsupported file type attachements

    Thank you for the reply.
This is happening on more than one computer.
It happens on all attachments of this type.

It is OK if the attachment is a .docx file.

One computer has the mail app has a yahoo account as the email client.

This computer has had a clean install of Windows 10.

Another computer has the mail app has a Gmail account as the email client

This computer has had an upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7.

The same email, with the access database mdb file attached, was sent to both account so the same email is being seen by both computers.

The Windows10 Mail app on both computers has the attachment greyed out with the message 'File Type Not Supported' (see below)
    The file attachment can be:

    • downloaded if the Gmail account is accessed directly through either Google or Internet Explorer browser.
    • downloaded if outlook has the Gmail account as the email client

In other words all other email programs have no problem with this email & this type of attachment.

We need to allow this file type to be downloaded via the Windows 10 Mail app. If not then we will have to us third party softeware.
Trust that you can resolve this for us.
I am prepared to make direct changes to the registry if that is necessary.
    Thank you
    Noel Ashton
