Unsure if I am Using Both IPv4 and IPv6 Due to Event Viewer

I like to monitor the NetworkProfile log in Event Viewer > Applications and Services > Microsoft > Windows, as well as the Netstat -ano command in CMD; ever since getting my new modem, I've seen IPv6 addresses in Netstat, and I have seen "IPv6" in the NetworkProfile loghowever, today one of the logs has made me unsure if I'm running both IPv6 and IPv4 in this session. usually when the Wifi/Ethernet connects on startup, this event can be seen;"Network ConnectedName: Wifi nameDesc: NetworkType: UnmanagedState: ConnectedCategory: Private"sometimes, the "State" part might say "Connected

    :)

Is It Safe to Disable IPv6 in Favour of IPv4

I just received a new modem/router, and I'm assuming because of the upgrade, my laptop and PC now run on IPv6, according to Event Viewer > NetworkProfile

I understand IPv6 is technically better but it spawns a bunch of connections in Netstat, with similar addresses to the IPv6 address; however, they don't match, and are always connecting to Search, as well as asusns on either Port 443 or Port 80

I'd like to put things back the way they were, so I went to Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Change Adapter Settings and went to Properties of both the Wifi and Ethernet to uncheck "IPv6"

on restart, both devices say they are running on IPv4 again in Event Viewer and it seems like returning to IPv4 stops the constant IPv6-like addresses from appearing in Netstat

is it safe to disable IPv6 like this? my previous modem didn't seem to support IPv6, since both my PC and laptop ran on IPv4 by default; however, the IPv6 option was likely still ticked in Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Change Adapter Settings

is this safe for my network and devices? I've seen conflicting answers on whether or not IPv6 is meaningfully securer than IPv4, with some saying it is and others saying there's no real difference

  3. Connectivity (IPv4/IPv6): Disconnected

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

Ideally this Connectivity (IPv4/IPv6): Disconnected, means that the devices in not in use or not connected and it could be any device for example, Ethernet, WIFI, Bluetooth or Local Area Connection.

If you are using WI-FI for internet connection then Ethernet will show Connectivity (IPv4/IPv6): Disconnected.

In order to understand the issue and assist you accordingly, we need some information

    • What is your network setup?
    • Are you seeing any errors?
    • Where you are seeing this information?

Meanwhile, try the troubleshooting steps referred in this article:

Fix network connection issues in Windows
    and check if it works.

    Prefer ipv4 over ipv6

hi, I want to set ipv4 to be preferred over ipv6, the other day i've used the tips from this Ping returns IPv6 Address, ping IPv4 in Command Prompt - TheITBros on my 2 windows10 computers and everything worked out great! Now, i just did a win10 update and i noticed that that no longer works even by doing the very same "command" and it kinda gets ignored. Did they just remove the functionality? This is what i get from netsh interface ipv6 show prefixpolicies (i don't get the longer list anymore but just these):
Unsure if I am Using Both IPv4 and IPv6 Due to Event Viewer 353233d1638012452t-prefer-ipv4-over-ipv6-image.png
So it seems to be preferring ipv4, yet when i ping my site (available on both ipv4 and ipv6), i get output with ipv6, same as google.com - the other day it was working nicely to ipv4 and i only used these 2 commands they suggested: netsh interface ipv6 set prefix ::/96 60 3 netsh interface ipv6 set prefix ::ffff:0:0/96 55 4 what's going on? I don't want to disable it completely (i know i can disable it from the router or from the network card properties, i just want to de-prioritise it) [Version 10.0.19044.1387] thank you, Gabrio - - - Updated - - - might have answered myself, i've added netsh interface ipv6 add prefixpolicy ::/0 40 1 and it did the trick... i wonder if it will stick now Unsure if I am Using Both IPv4 and IPv6 Due to Event Viewer :)
