Windows 10: Unusual CSR Bluetooth issue with xbox one controller

I recently needed to purchase a new bluetooth dongle for my PC when the one I was using died. The original was a cheap no name usb dongle that used an intel chipset paid maybe 10 bucks for it, the new dongle, equally as cheap, uses a CSR chipset. I installed the required drivers provided by the manufacturer and it works fine for speakers but when I pair my xbox one controller the windows device settings tells me that the controller is off even though the bluetooth software shows it as active and paired.

I have uninstalled the software and deleted the drivers to use the windows generic bluetooth driver but it fails to load and forces the use of the CSR driver to function. I have tried other version of CSR drivers with no change in controller functionality. I have attempted to delete the xbox one controller from the list of bluetooth devices in the windows settings and it simply hangs saying "removing device" then goes right back to showing the controller in the list with "turned off" as its status. I also ran windows system file checker and found no problems.

Since the CSR chips seem to be pretty prevalent with bluetooth dongles I would hate to buy a different one just to have the same issue so I figured I'd drop this unusual problem out here to see if any of you have had the same problem. I've listed my OS version and build below in case its an issue with an update. Any help would be appreciated.

[Solved] Bluetooth Adapter won't recognize Xbox Controller

Hey guys.

I bought myself a bluetooth adapter today (4.0), and I can't get it to work.. Apparently it's supposed to work on Windows XP and newer.

What I've tried:

• Installing driver for CSR Harmony (2 different versions)
• Uninstalling the driver above and unplug the usb, then reboot the computer while usb is plugged in
• Installing different drivers via "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer" on the controller and on the bluetooth driver.

The reason I could install different drivers on the controller, is that I can connect it manually via a cable, but this is not optimal as the controller is shorter than a wiener.

Almost all issues I've seen online was resolved with this "fix". Aka just not using the CSR drivers at all and letting Windows install the drivers automatically.

The weird part:

• My computer is now discoverable by my phone
• It looks like my computer can detect other devices (not 100% sure about this one, as I dont have anything else to test with)
• The Xbox Controller is discoverable by my phone
• When i had the CSR Harmony driver installed, I actually found the Xbox Controller, but I had issues pairing. (Error: "no pairing response received", and this issue was also resolved by the fix above)

It doesn't seem like there is an issue with the adapter, because it makes my computer discoverable, and it doesn't seem like there is an issue with the xbox controller, because it is discoverable by my phone... Hmm....

However, I do find it under More Bluetooth options --> COM Ports --> Add --> Outgoing (your PC initiates the connection) --> Browse

The error I get when trying to connect to it through here is "The device you selected does not have a serial port service running". But I guess it should

be impossible to connect to the controller this way anyways...

Can’t connect Xbox one controller to pc
