  3. For me I am just going to upgrade from 8.1, I will only do the clean install if things break, like to keep all my settings and apps intact

all data is backup up and on onedrive, so no problem either way, but prefer the upgrade if it works without issues

Full of What Wynona? That post was sort of made in fun. You know to lighten things up. I along with many others are tired of the way that MS is adding to the confusion every time Gabe makes a Tweet. I do get it, I just want a stable OS so I will just sit back and wait.*Smile

Only if the preview was a clean install that you have to upgrade to windows 10 rtm if leave the program. Make you wonder how they know. My computer would sure send Microsoft mixes messages if I kept 10 that is. A lot of tester where hoping to get windows 10 for free because they done that in the past.

    All,

I like the this from computer world

I agree with this. A company such as Microsoft should be able to communicate exactly what they mean and not incomplete information. MS has been in the game long enough to know better. MS would be much better off having all of their employees get off of Twitter and maybe hire someone with a communications background that can communicate exactly what they mean.

That's the route I'm planning on taking too.

I'll stay in the Insider program, with a dual boot, and occasionally check out the new builds. I always expected we would have to use our existing key to upgrade to Win 10, regardless.

What I'm wondering is will this generate a new Win 10 key after the version is activated or will it remain the same? (Win 8 Key)

That's what I'm going to do. When l signed up I did it because I wanted to. We can't blame MS for what Gabe said. I enjoy testing Win 10 and if possible I'm going to dual boot 10 RTM and 10 preview. I wasn't promised a free license when I joined and don't mind giving up my old OS. I am toying with the idea of buying a pro license for my desktop.

*Ditto Am I disappointed, yes. But when it's all said and done, someone made a mistake and Gabe seems to be paying the price. It's my opinion that he didn't come up with "a free copy for all the Insiders" all by himself. He's too smart for that.

  11. I did an upgrade from Windows 7 and a new key was generated for Windows 10. showkey shows the Windows 7 key and a new key for Windows 10.

Who knows, Paul. But if it were me, if I thought I would later want to rejoin the Insider Program, I wouldn't leave it in the first place.
